Up to 60 red-listed curlew roosted on the Cambois data centre site: 15% of the number Northumberland Shore SSSI was designated for (found in QTS's own surveys). Now it's being cleared. Mitigation: just £40k to extend a council wader site already created for another development in 2014.

Things were different then I guess, our understanding of the needs of wild animals was limited. You’d really hope no one would be keeping cheetahs or any wild cat as a pet nowadays, but it’s still happening. It was wrong then and it still is.

The Boundless Deep is an excellent book. Picked it up completely by chance and was amazed by it. A biography of Tennyson it was fascinating to consider how scientific discoveries conflicted with his and wider society’s beliefs. Been recommending it to everyone since.
