The drama of the mid 18th century encapsulated in structured silk. Pale Gros de Naples was chosen for its distinctive ribbed weave structure supplemented with a riot of florals. It is sculpted in such a way, it seems it could stand up on its own #MuseodelTraje #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

This feels like a quietly appropriate approach to autumn dressing, a loose early #1880s ‘at home’ kind of gown in reddy brown challis, a lightweight blend of wool & silk. #FridayFrocks #Pleating – A dress, c.1845–55 of silk satin. The full skirt is cartridge-pleated to the boned bodice which allows the large volume of fabric to be incorporated neatly into the waistband.
Collage showing a mid-19th century silk day dress (c.1845-1855) on a mannequin. The gown is made from striped silk in shades of deep plum, burgundy and bright magenta, with a fitted pointed bodice, long sleeves and a full gathered skirt. Time to learn to drop spin from the fold. This delightful soft blend is “Electro Lights by Shabaz”

Got my World of Wool summer sale fibres in. My choices are getting more deliberate now, and I have projects in mind for these larger amounts. Tempted to start on these now but I’ve a couple more spins from my previous batch to do first! In life news, have had no time to record and edit videos :(
5 bundles of fibre on a wooden floor. 1 x 200g bundle of many-coloured mixed fibres, 2 x 100g bundles of cheviot wool in dark green and dark orangey brown, 1 x 100g corriedale wool in streaky white and dark brown and 1 x 100g of black fibre with multicoloured iridescent fibres.

My first #TourDeFleece had a highly irregular stop-start schedule, but I think I can call the end of this 50g singles the official end for me. The 3D printed spindle has a slight wobble but works. I have rather overfilled it to produce this fibrous carrot though - I still have 2 more ply to spin!
A long bottom loaded spindle very full of a spun singles fibre. The spindle and fibre are orange and make a downward pointing conical shape. They are held aloft against the background of a pale grey wall.

The difference between the 2-ply plyback and the chain ply that I am learning to do is way more than I imagined! #TourDeFleece
A close up of thinly spun yarn singles beside the yarn plied onto a spindle. The plied yarn is much larger and softer in appearance.

Decided to attempt a self string yarn with 3 x 27g bumps from For The Love of Yarn again. The brown and orange are, I believe, merino comb top, but the red is a challenge- very short staple length, and possibly carded? It will certainly add some texture… #TourDeFleece
