Time to learn to drop spin from the fold. This delightful soft blend is “Electro Lights by Shabaz”
A left hand from it’s owners point of view, held with fingers and thumb held pinched together. Stripes of white blue and purple fibre are folded over the index finger and a thin tuft of the fibre has been drawn forwards over the fingertip. The background is a felt blanket.

Got my World of Wool summer sale fibres in. My choices are getting more deliberate now, and I have projects in mind for these larger amounts. Tempted to start on these now but I’ve a couple more spins from my previous batch to do first! In life news, have had no time to record and edit videos :(
5 bundles of fibre on a wooden floor. 1 x 200g bundle of many-coloured mixed fibres, 2 x 100g bundles of cheviot wool in dark green and dark orangey brown, 1 x 100g corriedale wool in streaky white and dark brown and 1 x 100g of black fibre with multicoloured iridescent fibres.

My first #TourDeFleece had a highly irregular stop-start schedule, but I think I can call the end of this 50g singles the official end for me. The 3D printed spindle has a slight wobble but works. I have rather overfilled it to produce this fibrous carrot though - I still have 2 more ply to spin!
A long bottom loaded spindle very full of a spun singles fibre. The spindle and fibre are orange and make a downward pointing conical shape. They are held aloft against the background of a pale grey wall.

The difference between the 2-ply plyback and the chain ply that I am learning to do is way more than I imagined! #TourDeFleece
A close up of thinly spun yarn singles beside the yarn plied onto a spindle. The plied yarn is much larger and softer in appearance.

Well, my sofa bed hasn’t showed up still but 3D printed gifts from my friend are here!

Decided to attempt a self string yarn with 3 x 27g bumps from For The Love of Yarn again. The brown and orange are, I believe, merino comb top, but the red is a challenge- very short staple length, and possibly carded? It will certainly add some texture… #TourDeFleece

I got excited when I realised I can take part in #TourDeFleece next month as a rookie spinner and immediately started a new spin (at midnight). #spinning 100% Polwarth from For The Love Of Yarn. (P.S. belt pattern release video coming tomorrow)
A close up of a Turkish spindle sitting atop a notebook. A spin of a fairly fine yarn is in progress and the fibre is attached and trailing off into the distance. The colours of the yarn are a hot pink, purple and indigo with small patches of undyed white throughout.

Waking up to the glorious sight of the spinning binge I performed last night - the final singles in my rookie attempt at a bubble yarn is ready for the final ply!

I can finally join in with #ShowMeYourKnits ! Here's me recently completed "Gilded Cowl" from the rightfully popular University of Glasgow knitting book:
A square colourwork knitted cowl that tapers slightly towards the top. It is knit with two gradient yarns of Hobbii Colorina yarn, giving the background an effect of striped red and orange. The Diamond-and-Circle filigree pattern is in a subtle contrast of blacks and greys.

Went to a workshop to learn quilling - there was only time in 1.5 hours to practice different shapes and techniques, but I can see how this could be a relaxing art form.
A piece of A4 card with a guided line illustration of a bird, 2 butterflies and a dragonfly on a flowering branch. The line drawing has many spiral forms within it.
Glued atop parts of the picture are sprials of coloured paper in round, eye and heart shapes. Some curled strips of paper and corrugated paper are used for branches and edges of leaves.

Ermehgerd - a late gift exchange parcel just arrived from my friends FULL of knitting goodies 🤩💖 It includes 360m of tweedy burnt umber aran - what do I make? I’m thinking leg warmers, a shawl or a cowl atm. I’m due to buy a creamy aran soon and will have spare, so perhaps I could pair them!
An arrangement of items on a grey carpet. To the top and left some discarded dinosaur gift wrap and a card envelope with a Warhammer Ork face symbol, and the words “Read me first!” written on it.
Dominating the image is a smooth wooden yarn ball holder bowl with a spiral cut out and three holes in one edge.
At the base of the bowl a small plastic container of Knitting Accessories can be seen.
In the bottom right of the image two dark orange aran weight balls of tweed yarn can be seen sealed in clear plastic bags.
At the top of the image are two books. Uppermost a small brown journal with a dragonscale texture and a picture of a dragon embossed on it. Beside it the book “Spice: The 16the-Century Contest that shaped the modern world”, by Roger Crowley.

Another nervewracking personal first in progress - started on the presentation of my first knitting pattern this morning (the one mentioned in my Vlog). I'm using Affinity free version for laying things out and it's going okay so far!
A screenshot of a portion of a graphical editing program, which shows a text box containing a bullet list reading
"•	Adaptable to many yarn and needle sizes.
•	Instructions for beaded and non-beaded versions.
•	Broad size range
•	FREE"
At the bottom of the box is written, "ALPHA release, v.0.1)."
Around the top and right hand side of the box, a portion of a photograph shows a glimps of a black and white manufactiured fabric, some knitted cord in blue, and a small amount of grass in the background implying that the fabrics are worn garments being modelled.

A night of sleep to absorb the new skills and reflect and the second part has spun up SO much better! I pre-drafted more and split the fibre once more down the middle. I also learned to move my drafting pinch forward half the length of the draft after I’d drawn it out. I did spin the wrong way 1x
Two freshly spun small balls of handspun rainbow wool. The sample on the right is still on the crossbars of a purple stained wooden Turkish spindle. It is more evenly spun and wound than the sample on the left.

1st attempt at spinning with the Turkish spindle (2nd attempt ever) = Still inconsistent: I can tell what I am doing wrong but don’t have the speed and coordination to fix it. I’m not using the hook on the top and might remove it. I pre-drafted, but maybe not enough. some improvement by the end
On the left a purple stained short Turkish spindle, with a lead string prepared for the next spin. On the left, a small ‘turtle’ ball of uneven and mixed up rainbow coloured single ply handspun yarn.

I made modifications to this free dino pattern to make it into a stegosaurus… Or Wonky the wonkosaurus, as I prefer to call it, because I miscounted the round starts on the head and gave it a serendipitous coy head turn. Hands down the cutest thing I have ever made 🥰 ribblr.com/pat?pattern_...

Ranunculus xmas eve cast on going well (so far) now I’m past the cast on - have only had a *mere* 6 or so hours to work on it through the festivities, but it’s growing pretty fast for me. Different sofa to sleep on tonight, last round of gift exchange tomorrow morning.

Third time was the charm for the xmas eve Ranunculus cast on! It looks a bit small for the wide neck version now, but I have faith it will knit up well. It’s certainly stretchy. Glad that part is over - on to the pleasurable part of knittingz

You wouldn’t believe it by looking at this frustrating mess but I have been vey careful to ensure the join was not twisted this time. That doesn’t make knitting into this cast on on magic loop any less prone to hellsh frustration, unfortunately.
A small amount of yarn tangled around a air of 6mm corded knitting needles in what could reasonably be described as a chaotic manner.

Started again after a shower I got kicked out of half way through because of leaky plumbing. Got to round 2, and spotted an untwisted knit mistake early enough to fix it…. then saw that there is a twist in the whole neckline. I have to go through the fiddly magic loop cast on hell a THIRD time! 😓

Attempt 1 at Ranunculus xmas eve cast on: Fiddly, frustrating, got to the end of the ribbed round 1 on the wrong stitch, tried to TINK and the cast-on stitch underneath unravelled. On a limited time schedule today and now have to start from scratch. Less relaxing than hoped. May cancel xmas to knit

Blocked the rananculus swatch and have come to the conclusion that I am not going to block the finished piece very much at all - it was about the right height and only 1 stitch too dense pre-block, but there’s no lace detail in the swatch. Also my sleepy speedy knitting is super uneven :-s
