#FridayFrocks #SpringFlowers Evening dress from the 1840s made of a brocaded floral silk which dates from the 1770s. It’s probably made from an old bolt of fabric rather than a re-construction of an 18th-century dress.
Composite image of an 18th‑century silk brocade evening gown, stitched in the 1840s, displayed on a dress form. The main image shows a pale cream gown with a fitted, pleated bodice, short sleeves, a pointed waist, and a full skirt. Small brocade floral sprigs are scattered across the fabric. Two close‑up images show the bodice construction with narrow red-edged seams and the textured silk weave with a single embroidered flower motif.
