When I bought a guitar here in the '80s they gave me a card that entitled me to 12 free guitar picks each month for a year. I collected the entire gross of plectra. This is sad news, and a problem for artists playing the Horseshoe who can no longer run across the street for strings or drumsticks.

My kid casually mentions that her friend "lives near the house with the creepy guy in a box." I've lived here for 15 years but was unaware of this local feature. Sure enough, here's Padre Pio mounted over the garage like a cross between a Virgin Mary shrine and Zoltar from BIG (1988).

A house with red numbers that say "718", two small flower boxes, an illuminated star, and a CREEPY ASS DUDE suspended over the garage in a box like a Beefeater guard house, with plastic across the front and the words "PADRE PIO" in adhesive letters across the bottom. If I ever see this thing move I'm relocating my entire family to different province.

A family friend has passed away at age 90. My father contributed some lovely words to the online Memorial page, but opted not to mention the many expressions our friend used that we continue to employ to this day, the most evocative of which is, "His face looks like a barrel of smashed assholes."
