Makes me think of @histoftech.bsky.social’s argument about early computer dating services: the illusion that a machine is choosing for you or generating something is incredibly seductive. We’ve been living for a long time with fantasies of machine perfection.

see? here's the thing. A lot of people are like, the earth is fucked, it's beyond salvation, it's hit the tipping point, but time and time again we see that if we just fucking fixed the problem, it rebounds so incredibly fast. Imagine what could be done if people actually cared

I made a tool that makes retro anime sound effects. Meet AnimeVox! I made it for a game, but it's free to use. I'm using the forgotten (but popular in 80s japan) Schroeder reverb algo, and some wobble. If you find it useful consider supporting me on itch :) castpixel.itch.io/animevox
the anime sfx-making tool!
It's called ANIMEVOX, in big letters up top.
Then there's the controls:

In vertical pairs:
Left:
Pitch Rise
Rise speed

Reverb
Room size

On the right:
Wobble Speed
Wobble Amount

Tone Brightness
Volume

Next is a row of keys:
Randomize - randomizes the sound parameters
UNDO/ REDO - go back to parameters you liked
Export Wav - self explanatory, it saves a copy of the latest sound to your hard drive.

Then the fun buttons, with cute art styles:

IMPACT, sparkle, beam, powerUP, PON, BOOM, slash, woosh

Each produces a preset sound, which then goes through the fx chain.

Hope you enjoy it!

starry sketchbook stuff 🌟 #art #sketchbook #mixedmedia
Sketchbook page filled with watercolor, gouache and colored pencil artworks. On the top there’s a star pattern in shades of green, orange and red. In the middle, there’s a gouache painting of four hares running across a grassy field at night. On the bottom, there’s 3 pictures of little star people: one sitting, one rolling a moon and one with a small orange shopping bag.

You don't need to be able to read every pore and eyelash on a character's face for "good" graphics. You need good art direction and design. Those are what ensure your game still looks striking and memorable even decades later.

OpenAI will, starting in 2028, have to start paying $30bn a year to Oracle, $28bn to Microsoft for Azure, and also $2.9bn to CoreWeave for compute. That’s $60.9 billion *in compute costs alone*. This company is an absolute joke and should be treated as such. www.theinformation.com/articles/ope...
OpenAI’s planned shift from Microsoft to Stargate wouldn’t happen overnight. The company’s spending on Microsoft-owned data centers should ramp up significantly in the next few years, more than doubling from $13 billion this year to $28 billion in 2028. The spending forecast is based on contracts signed between the two companies, OpenAI indicated. OpenAI could end up spending more with Microsoft for data centers than it indicated in the forecasts if Microsoft chooses to build additional data center capacity through 2030.

Another thing I can’t get over about the Democratic establishment’s backing of Andrew Cuomo in the New York mayoral race is how much hostility they’ve shown to Zohran Mamdani, an extremely gifted young campaigner whose energy and charisma the party sorely needs. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
But perhaps what is most telling about the Democratic party’s embrace of Cuomo is not just their disregard for principle or policy, but their willingness to squander other talent. The mayoral race in New York City is crowded, but Cuomo’s two nearest contenders – Mamdani and Brad Lander, the city comptroller – have run remarkable campaigns. Lander has touted a considerable record of accomplishments for the city, underscoring his ability to deliver on promises to New Yorkers and his willingness to persist against formidable interests in long fights for things like bike lanes and affordable housing. Mamdani, meanwhile, has an infectious charisma, and has launched a campaign that has excited young voters, energized a small army of volunteers, and deployed innovative messaging tactics, achieving impressive numbers with relatively little money. You would think that the Democratic party would be more eager to make use of these men’s talents – the policy achievements of one, the preternatural campaign skills of the other. Instead, mainstream Democrats seem fearful, and almost hostile, towards these candidates. Then again, that’s much the way they feel about their voting base itself.
