Today's questions from a definitely unbiased candidate debate: "Why are the Greens polling so well when you had someone who shoplifted at the start of the term?" "Why do you think people don't like Chloe Swarbrick so much?" I wish I was kidding.

Right, I think we’ve accepted the fact that I’ve already supplied this info, and are now stuck on the fact I have not yet got a contract in place with someone they are presumably supposed to contract/pay directly, and that they have also not yet agreed to pay… because they wanted to assess first.🤔

Someone else said that as well - I’ve had 30 years of seeing a parent go through absolute hell with them so I’m a cynic at the best of times, but very glad they are actually calling people back - should be the bare minimum!

The WINZ saga continues: I have now received an email requesting three comprehensive pieces of information I have already provided or are already on file, combined with an ask to log in to a portal my elderly parent doesn’t have access to because: internet. I’ve asked for escalation - let’s see 🍿👀

50 minutes holding on literally and spiritually via a tour of four NZ artist songs on repeat… success! An email to send a form to! And then a two week wait (at least) for processing🫠 The lady I spoke to was lovely - this process was not. We need WINZ to be resourced and beneficiaries treated well./

20 minutes holding on the second call to WINZ. All due respect to Dave Dobbyn but his music was not meant to be listened to in this way.

Currently on hold with the WINZ Seniors line on behalf of a parent - wait time: 40+ mins. I in no way trust they’ll call me back, so am here for the duration. Great our Government thinks seniors (or anyone else) have the kind of time to wait almost an hour to speak to anyone about their benefit. 🙄🫠

One day we’ll have a conversation about the things we normalise politically, culturally, systemically that has the end result of women MPs being targeted - and women and girls worldwide. From gutting of pay equity to refusal to hold predators accountable in every single sphere - our choices add up👇

Florence Pugh has an eloquent, fierce post on Instagram re Cornell College - & a question very relevant to New Zealand’s judicial system: “Those that protect and lightly sentence men that rape and destroy, should be punished and watched closely. Why are you protecting someone that fiercely?” #nzpol
Florence Pugh (Instagram):

I'm no longer tired- I'm enraged by schools protecting boys, in fear of their futures being wrecked. What about the life that those girls then have to endure, with the knowledge that his reputation is more precious than her truth?
Or to feel that no one with the power to do something cares that you were abused. It's further soul-destroying.
Those that protect and lightly sentence men that rape and destroy, should be punished and watched closely. Why are you protecting someone that fiercely?

NZ Herald, we’re allowed to say “who was in for violating a restraining order”. “Sending a text message” completely fails to reflect the impact on the woman he was stalking for a decade. Ideally we would reflect on the decision to minimise his actions in this headline / doubt we will etc 🫠

Journalists are crowing 'what's new?!' because they have forgotten that there is a second draft of history, and don't seem to recognise that a book like this, is it. This govt has literally forced the TPU into the *school curriculum* in its ideological vandalism, well here's the primary reference.

Tika was formed by barrister Zoë Lawton and investigative journalist Alison Mau. Frustrated by statistics that only 10% of survivors ever report, they identified a tech-led, collective action model as the best way to break systemic barriers, and support survivors as they seek justice.

This is absolutely fantastic. As Chlöe says, politics is just a game to some politicians. A way to exert power and line themselves up for comfortable well paid jobs in the future. They can’t fathom that not everyone is like them. This shouldn’t come as a shock but I’m voting ✅✅ @greens.org.nz

Just noting it’s the Australian Greens pushing to ban smart glasses, and who have prompted moves to regulate. Something for New Zealand to consider as we go to the polls soon is who consistently looks out for women and girls - and who consistently does not, through silence, inaction or bad policy.
"Smart glasses - otherwise known as pervert glasses - are hitting New Zealand, but as Australia announces moves to regulate this Invasive technology, how can we ensure New Zealanders - especially women - are safe?" privacy expert Frith Tweedie said.
Tweedie acknowledged that smart glasses - whose Al features can be used in concert with their cameras to give verbal descriptions of objects or read text - had benefits for those who were blind or had low vision.
"But there is also significant scope for misuse," Tweedie said.
"Think covert, sexualised filming at gyms, beaches, schools and changing rooms, exposure of identities and locations online, stalking and image-based sexual abuse."

“We are calling on the Government to start an inquiry into the culture and processes at Work and Income…” Glad NZ Greens are calling for this. The harm Work and Income routinely causes has a long reach - and a huge impact, as evidenced here. Our systems should work for people, not against them.

Not sure if Brooke van Velden’s final speech to Parliament consisting of a roomful of not-listening people too busy panicking about Nicky Hager’s book launch at the same time and then limited media coverage because of the focus on the book is *chef’s kiss* or poetic justice, but why not both 🤷🏻‍♀️
