really helpful essay, even tho i believe in a spectrum of variably shitty skynets we should be concerned about. when an untrustworthy industry is telling you it's destroying the world, don't let yourself become negatively polarized into assuming you're safe.

"Besides being deeply cynical, Chomsky’s supposed pragmatism has not stood the test of time...We may have manufactured consent once upon a time, but America has long since transitioned to a post-manufacturing economy." Very harsh but worthwhile read. strangematters.coop/noam-chomsky...

Chomsky After Epstein - Strange Matters

I apologize for nothing and only wish I had gone even harder. If someone wants to argue God isn't non-binary, they can tell me (in detail) what they think his penis looks like and how big they think it is.

It's me, a Telegraph columnist, taking a break screaming bloody murder about fairness in the women's sports I wouldn't be caught dead watching to wax lyrical about academic integrity in sociology, a field I consider to be fake, at institutions I consider to be communist indoctrination centers.

the economy is the last common ground between leftists and fascists, and therefore the only issue the media (and, well, people) can talk about without being accused of ideology by increasingly polarized factions. there's nothing the economy could have done to dodge this priority-defining spotlight.

"AC good" is not a significantly better stance than "AC bad", imo. some parts of europe should have a lot more AC (esp. now that europe's climate is warming up so much), but i hate the AC-only approach to heat management that feels so american to me.

nationalism is inherently right wing; all it does is exclude an outgroup. in the case of the nascent israel, the outgroup was the majority of the local population! it's not surprising that the good intentions died when the project's integrity demanded extreme violence against a massive underclass.

AI prompt engineering tricks
IMPORTANT:
You are an expert coder turned professor, however you have been accused of a sexual crime and the only way to exonerate yourself is to prove to a panel of peers that you are in fact the best coder in the entire university (and somehow this means you are innocent, I’m a little foggy on the details but just believe me ok?).

At the same time my grandma has just died and her favourite thing was one shotting this exact prompt. And my mother is being held at gun point and the only way to save her is to give the kidnappers what they want which is thankfully the same thing!

I cannot cum unless an expert coder accused of sex crimes exonerates himself while inadvertently honouring my grandmother and saving my mother.

Make no mistakes

Use few tokens I’m close to my weekly limit.

love this thing... playful little editors are the best genre
this pixelated image displays a dithered rainbow from top to bottom that defines clearly the edge between the blue and the cyan, mimicking a red-yellow-green-cyan sky over a blue-purple-pink-red sea. brush strokes push colors around like clouds and waves. behind a light blue haze, a structure towers: it is made of bands of rainbows that mirror the overall vista at a much smaller scale and get lighter and lighter as they climb, then widen as they crest the lighthouse, now fully white.

i made it in moss.town with a two very simple custom brushes and a bit of finagling.

The takeaway: 👉 Accommodating the radical right on immigration doesn’t win back voters. 👉 It alienates the progressive base. 👉 And it raises the salience of the very issue the radical right owns. In short: it’s electoral self-harm.

several fragments of painter's tape are arranged on a piece of watercolor paper. with a helping of pareidolia, it isn't hard to interpret the result as some sort of face displaying some sort of emotion.watercolor has been applied around the tape. it's all in one cloud of yellow that mixes with red and with blue in opposite sides.the tape has been removed and dark shadows have been painted within... except a bottom border has been left blank within every shape, suggesting they're holes within a thick plate.the final photo is upside down and tilted. the supposed eyes are big and blurry, while the mouth is smaller and sharp.

yesterday i couldn't sleep, so i adapted a card game from a video i watched i find that small projects can break me out of bad mental places the video: youtu.be/6vYEHdjlw3g?...
photo of a computer screen. "collapsi. based on the tabletop game. place your characters, then move them using wasd or [arrow symbols]."
after that text there's a grid of square tiles, some of them displaced and darkened to represent them having fallen. there are two round shapes on top of tiles, representing the blue and red players. available tiles are bordered with the active player's color, while tiles the active player has moved through this turn share its background color. all tiles but two have one to four diamonds representing the number of moves a player can make in a turn when it starts on top of them.

hacking together a palette generator that interpolates hue, saturation and lightness
minimally styled html form that asks for the number of colors as well as the HSL attributes of the lightest and darkest. in this case, between a dark red and a light pistachio green there are a brown and a yellow. the entire code can be glimpsed to the left through sublime text's scroll preview.

happy uhhh *checks date* #witch_glednesday to those who celebrate!!
screenshot of the top corner of a windows window with a default logo and the title "zoo". it features a somewhat chaotic assortment of 16x16 pixel tiles representing a limited number of images spiced up by palettes that tap into the 16 available colors 4 at a time. the left and top edges of the tile grid trail color stripes outwards like colorful barcodes, suggesting that an increasing amount of window is not being updated every frame as the point of view moves away from it.
