Diarrhoea was a favourite word of the art teacher. I suspect this stemmed from his time with the Eighth Army in North Africa.

I would there were no age between sixteen and three-and-twenty, or that youth would sleep out the rest; for there is nothing in the between but getting wenches with child, wronging the ancientry, stealing, fighting William Shakespeare (He wasn't much wrong there)

SLOES - 480g off the bushes I planted 13 years ago - a first crop. Now drying after a wash. Not too early if they come off the stalk easily, but always better than too late, as the rains will soon wash them off the bush.

It seems preferable to think that fundamentally the Buendías, as described in 100 Years Of Solitude, are fairly typical in how families burn out, such that the final act might be considered as a best case scenario.

Mostly I buy s/h paperbacks and while price comes first condition follows. Margin notes and dedications don't bother me at all. Except when it's sad. "Merry Christmas Stefania, 2015, love Robert" Somebody cared - but the book had never been opened, not once, and was clearly never read.

A very clear sighted thread about youth education in the UK, and how it persistently fails the majority of kids - labelling, permeability, and culture. One might note that the UK is not a European country with regard to education, but that it could be with some small adjustments in attitude.

In the late '80s #Bologna became my adopted second home. The clock above the railway station shows the time of 10.25, the moment a bomb detonated and killed 85 people, injuring at least 200. The clock remains a symbol and a reminder of that day.

You see everything is connected. The marine heatwaves off the coasts of Europe make heatwaves on land more intense, which in turn dries out vegetation, which then creates perfect fire weather conditions. Brought to you by the world's refusal to drastically reduce the burning of fossil fuels.
