Important op-ed from @bhaggart.bsky.social. No more magical thinking. "this isn’t a fight over economic spoils. It’s a political fight with an authoritarian country that seeks to dominate and subjugate Canada. Tariffs are the weapon, not the game" #Gift 🎁 #CdnPoli www.thestar.com/gift-redeem?...
In other words, it makes no sense to renegotiate the USMCA, an agreement that Trump has arbitrarily violated, in order to keep Trump from arbitrarily attacking the Canadian economy. Any agreement would bind only Canada, not the United States, while any concessions would only lead to more demands.

Second, Canadians and Canadian businesses have to get used to uncertainty. The old relationship is dead. A country with two-party system in which one party is openly authoritarian, that elected Trump twice, cannot credibly commit to long-term international agreements.

That neither certainty nor an agreement is possible is a hard pill to swallow. It requires tough conversations, ones that Carney appears to have avoided to date. A continental auto industry might be more economically efficient than a U.S.-only one. But this isn’t a fight over economic spoils. It’s a political fight with an authoritarian country that seeks to dominate and subjugate Canada. Tariffs are the weapon, not the game.

In light of recent news about PC MPPs financial shenanigans and dangerous driving, F.O. has made the difficult decision to place the Ontario PC Party under supervision. 🙃
Dear Doug Ford,

The people of Ontario deserve to have confidence that decisions being made are always with our best interests in mind.

That is why we have placed the Ontario PC Party under supervision.
Supervision was put in place because members of parliament are not delivering the outcomes Ontarians deserve or demonstrating the level of financial and governance responsibility that taxpayers expect. When that happens, we have a responsibility to step in and act.

Supervision is a proactive measure that allows for stronger oversight and clearer accountability. Through supervision, the intent is to ensure decisions are made in the best interests of Ontarians and that resources are directed where they matter most - public education and health care, to name just two.

We want to assure you that placing the Ontario PC Party under supervision is not a decision that was made lightly. If an MPP veers from their mandate, we will act quickly to restore focus, rebuild trust and put Ontarians first.

The actions we have taken will help restore sound financial and operational management at Queen’s Park and ensure that every tax dollar goes toward helping Ontarians lead long, healthy, happy lives.

							Sincerely,
							F.O.

Jason Kenney tweets “encouraging if true” in response to a post from second street.org, which is a group I’m not familiar with but is apparently a free market ideology think tank lol. More on their post in the next pic and alt textSecondStreet.org, which is apparently a free market think tank, posts on Twitter alongside a photo of carney: “Prime Minister Carney is taking a different approach to provincial health care reform.
Rather than discouraging innovation, his government appears open to Alberta testing policies already used in many high-performing universal health care systems around the world - including the policy of letting patients choose between using the public system or paying for private treatment.
When millions of Canadians struggle to access care, new ideas deserve a fair hearing.
