I just finished my last quarterly meeting with staff at the soon to be closed Consumption and Treatment Site. This is a loss for our community, that, come summer, will be seen in our streets, ambulances, emerges and in deaths of people using drugs.

Your friendly reminder: the nearly evidence-less ‘wellness industry’ is worth $7 trillion per year, 4X the pharmaceutical industry. I think it is great to be critical about pharmaceuticals, while maintaining sanity and understanding that meds have a key place in treatment and secondary prevention.

I had the pleasure of a great discussion today with a lovely 90 year old lady - L. L was telling me about how she first moved to Peterborough 85 years ago from Toronto when her family sent her to Peterborough to live with relatives in the midst of a polio outbreak to avoid getting sick.

Let’s talk about mouthwash 👅 as a way to prevent respiratory viruses! 🦠 We did a guideline called CAN-PCC that looked at Mouthwash to prevent COVID-19 transmission (link in bio). It found a three-fold reduction in transmission (low certainty evidence ++oo).
