Reminds me of Mamie Till-Mobley, too. I assigned some of her speeches & press interactions to my classes last semester & I think it completely changed the way students understood her. We tend to put these women into the mold of passive victims, but they were so much more than that.

But the regime & its supporters have made a critical error in publicly embracing & nationalizing the lawlessness, corruption, & plunder rather than hiding behind proceduralism & "states rights" jargon. It has never been more obvious that the state does not work for us. That is an enormous weakness.

What Hamer shows us is that wagelessness & lawlessness are bound together in our society. Racialzed groups are not targeted arbitrarily, but as a means to plunder—to advance elite white systems of profit & power. The funding cuts, roundups, exec orders, etc. today are means towards that same goal.

Hamer was talking about the famous "Mississippi Burning" murders of Schwerner, Chaney, and Goodman, but her remarks might just as easily refer to those murdered or incarcerated as terrorists for protesting against ICE & this lawless regime.

It's very significant that the raid against Omar was conducted by HSI. That means that whatever justified the warrant isn't related to corruption or misconduct. They're specifically looking for evidence that she committed immigration fraud so they can denaturalize and deport her.

One argument I make here is that if the Latino shift back to Dems holds, it's important for 2028. It's hard to see JD Vance winning back anything like Trump-2024 numbers among Latinos as long as Trump controls economic/immigration policy. So this shift could threaten MAGA's long-term viability too.

I think this discussion on here tends mostly towards excuses—not here for that—but I wrote abt an example of this militant & grassroots approach from the Birmingham Children’s Crusade. Circumstances change, but identifying & then overwhelming weaknesses in the fascist apparatus is always the way.
