I don't generally repost my own stuff. But, the combo that today is World Animal Day and that many of you ask if the animals are ever close to the house... and voila - trail camera montage from a few months ago that maybe you haven't seen. #nature #PNW #Seattle #love #nokings

the "don't bring iced coffee to an interview" discourse is great bc it's such a succinct and clarifying example of how private businesses aren't efficient & logical enterprises, they're just arbitrary in-groups ruled by sociopaths, power tripping on their ability to enforce pointless bullshit norms

i am genuinely bewildered by people who say that the rise of white nationalism in the republican party is a response to the "woke left." like, did the woke left cause pat buchanan's 1992 presidential campaign? is the woke left why steve king had a long career in congress?

Hate to break it to all the bots, but there is no longer such a thing as "mainstream media" in the US. There are some good journalists and editors approaching total burnout, a large ring of freelancers trying to hang on, and a larger group who are either unemployed or now in other professions.

i think the big data center backlash has a lot to do with technology getting worse, costing more, building a surveillance state, destroying the environment, owned by a class of wealthy elite that coalesced behind the fascist regime that made clear they’d sacrifice humanity for their own power growth

History will do no such thing. By any metric, the 119th Congress has been one of the *least* productive in American history. It has passed fewer laws than almost any other Congress and, worse, has completely abandoned its roles in conducting oversight and authorizing wars.

Is this just business as usual in politics? No. Approval rates of federal disaster aid requests were about the same regardless of the state and did not vary much with the party of the President. This graph powerfully conveys the scale of the partisan discrimination now.

As the NFL Draft approaches, read about a vision one architect has for the Roberto Clemente Bridge connecting the North Shore to Downtown — close the bridge to traffic permanently and turn it into a linear park. buff.ly/H3uOYfR

The Roberto Clemente Bridge should become a linear park
The Pittsburgh bridge’s real power comes out when it’s closed to automotive traffic. So why not make that permanent and create a new attraction, like Dallas and New York have done?

This reality check by Rebecca Solnit grabs you right from the killer first sentence. Do yourself a favor & give it a read.
The United States is being murdered, and it’s an inside job. Every department, every branch, every bureau and function of the federal government is being fatally corrupted or altogether dismantled or disabled. All this is common knowledge, but because it dribbles out in news stories about this specific incident or department, the reports never adequately describe an administration sabotaging the functioning of the federal government and also trashing the global economy, international alliances and relationships, and the national and global environment in ways that will have downstream consequences for decades and perhaps, especially when it comes to climate, centuries.

It’s not strange. Grown Americans in positions of power & authority called the police on to campuses, and threatened the future work and livelihood of 20 year olds because they dared to stand against the mass bombing of women and children. And they will never forget it.

Serious question. Doesn’t our government already know who’s a citizen? The Social Security Administration, the State Department, DHS, the DMV they all have this data. In fact, the SAVE Act itself uses federal databases to verify citizenship for other parts of the bill.

Trump is trying to repeal the "endangerment finding" -- the scientific investigation that led EPA to conclude that climate change is dangerous to humans. It's scientifically unjustifiable of course, but they're going to have to justify it to a court. That should be fun to watch.

Now two Minnesotans are dead and Minneapolis is on the verge of going up in flames. None. Of. This. Was. Necessary.

You can never be sorry enough for dropping the “h” at the end of Pittsburgh. That h really classes up the name, you know, makes it sound like the home of a Scottish Laird n’at. Cheers to Raleig for owning this treachery.
