We talked with Chicago Transit Authority acting president Nora Leerhsen about the joys & challenges of running a system with annual ridership of more than 330 million, what kids can teach us about transit, & the role of public transportation in our democracy. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/r...

The mobility of children is simply not taken seriously or viewed as important. Something illustrative is how people will often say that kids "don't count" when you remind them that children and young teens are nondrivers who deserve the right to get around without cars.

Chicagoans Who Bike @chiwho.bike · 06/10/2026
“This is our Urban Arrow and we’ve had this since we moved to Chicago. I use it to get my kids around, and sometimes even the two kids and my mom in here. So it's our two wheels, but, like an SUV on two wheels.” 🧵
A smiling woman stands on a city street next to a white cargo e-bike. She has dark long hair with a flower clip, glasses, and is wearing a short-sleeved blue patterned jacket with orange trim over a peach top, a long floral-patterned skirt, and white sneakers. Her bike is a white Urban Arrow front-loading cargo bike with a large black front box, yellow panniers on the rear rack, a helmet hanging from the handlebars.A closer shot of the same woman, with people sitting at picnic tables in the street behind her.

So it seems like it wouldn't need to store every possible combination. It would just need to store the combinations between 0-9 and then store the algorithm for multi-digit numbers similar to how humans do it "add the ones, add the tens, add the hundreds, etc. Same for multiplication

When Good Georgians Get Together, Great Things Happen
How I’d Fix Atlanta was a free monthly essay series for four years. It’s been a couple of print zines and a performance on a stage a few times. Quite often, it’s stickers. HIFA is large, it contains multitudes. Every September, we do a big fundraiser to abolish medical debt. From 2023-2025, we raised more than […]

Yeah honestly it was a weird and slightly uncomfortable ride winding through random narrow streets in Kirkwood to pick up that many people lol
010
Wesley Cook ⚡🚲 @wesley.theatl.social · 22/09/2026
I also have to imagine that the cost per passenger is relatively high (another one of the talking points) since capacity is so limited. The most people I've seen on a single ride is 4 passengers, but typically I'm the only one.
120
Wesley Cook ⚡🚲 @wesley.theatl.social · 22/09/2026
Compared to a bus though the capacity is limited. During peak commuting times in Kirkwood I sometimes get a message saying it's already at capacity and it won't let me schedule a trip. If 5-10 extra people ride the bus one morning that just gets absorbed easily.

Wesley Cook ⚡🚲 @wesley.theatl.social · 22/09/2026
Yup, it can be great with connecting people to regular fixed route bus or train service or allowing for local trips to get groceries, etc. I've even seen people picking up their kids from Toomer on MARTA Reach
110
Wesley Cook ⚡🚲 @wesley.theatl.social · 22/09/2026
And given the length of the beltline it's unreasonable to expect people to walk from e.g. the Southside to Ponce City market for work. Biking is also not feasible for many. Transit is more essential to truly connect the beltline together than just having pavement for people to walk/bike on.
060
Wesley Cook ⚡🚲 @wesley.theatl.social · 22/09/2026
The beltline is already crowded with people and any useful transit will need to be able to scale up to meet the demand. Light rail can move many times more people at once compared to shuttles or stupid autonomous "pods" or whatever
150
Wesley Cook ⚡🚲 @wesley.theatl.social · 22/09/2026
So we actually have this, and it's called MARTA Reach. I ride MARTA Reach semi-often and it's a good service, but I've also used it enough to know it doesn't scale well. With regular fixed route service if 25 people all decide to ride at the same time that's fine. With shuttle service it buckles

The model is whatever model chatgpt uses for free when you're not logged in

Sorry I thought that would share the whole thread I don't use these much in my personal time when I'm not at work. This is the prompt: "Two ferrymen and three boats are on the left bank of a river. Each boat holds exactly one man. How can they get both men and all three boats to the right bank?"
210
Wesley Cook ⚡🚲 @wesley.theatl.social · 20/09/2026
And yet the underlying tech is the same. Posing back the same question it responded with a year ago still seems to yield a similarly nonsensical response (the problem as stated is impossible): chatgpt.com/s/t_6aaff9d5... Because it's not actually grounded in any real understanding of 3d-space
100
Wesley Cook ⚡🚲 @wesley.theatl.social · 20/09/2026
But even if they've "improved", the technology is still the same. They don't have an actual understanding of the underlying principles And that doesn't mean that they aren't useful, but it probably doesn't make sense to compare what they do to the human concept of understanding or reasoning
200
Wesley Cook ⚡🚲 @wesley.theatl.social · 20/09/2026
Yeah and that was also from a year ago so the models have probably improved since then. I pulled that from a thread with a lot of examples of these kinds of responses though. You also have to factor in a bit of randomness. You can ask the same question multiple times and get different responses

Here's an entire website dedicated to measuring how LLMs perform at chess. "Coherence" is supposed to measure how often they play legal chess moves. Note that no model produces legal moves 100% of the time. Albeit I'll concede some of them are getting pretty close chessbench.ai/timeline/coh...

This is chatgpt answering a question about the two-ferrymen logic puzzle: chatgpt.com/share/68813f... Look at how the example solution doesn't actually make sense unless the ferrymen have access to teleportation:
“Two ferrymen and three boats are on the left bank of a river. Each boat holds exactly one man. How can they get both men and all three boats to the right bank?”

The solution has many iterations of boats going back and forth but would require one of the ferryman to have teleportation to return to the left bank of the river. The problem is also stated incorrectly since it says the boats can only carry one ferryman

Wesley Cook ⚡🚲 @wesley.theatl.social · 20/09/2026
It's been a long documented thing with the models often make illegal chess moves and aren't able to play effectively. Given it wouldn't surprise me if they've built that into the harness by now or trained on chess specifically to improve that
101
Wesley Cook ⚡🚲 @wesley.theatl.social · 20/09/2026
You could just as easily pull out dozens of examples of LLMs demonstrating they do not understand. Ask Claude to play a game of chess for instance. You can also take common logic problems with novel twists and they will often apply logic incorrectly to solve it. Things that a human would never do

The global cost of automobility Automobility is one of the most powerful forces shaping modern societies, economies, and environments While motorists often underestimate the true private costs of car ownership, the social costs are diffuse and largely hidden, distributed across entire populations.
