Those arguing for mass-adoption of AI art always seem intent on proving the wrong thing; that AI tech will change beyond all recognition. They seem less inclined to prove their argument's much wilder claim; that human nature, and all previous modes of taste, emotion and investment, will change too.

The SCOTUS ruling in favor of resuming deportations of migrants to unknown countries is an abomination. As Pope Francis often said: “Migrants are not pawns of the chessboard of humanity; they are people with stories who deserve our love and care.”

Conservatives desperately want cultural supremacy and yet they are incapable of producing art. I don't even mean great or good art, I mean "works that are arguably artistic." Every cultural artifact they produce in any medium is instantly recognizable as vapid, disposable, and unworthy of attention.

Every person bears God’s image. No faith, tradition or appeal to morality can justify persecution. When people suffer, silencing those who speak for their dignity deepens the harm. Our Christian calling is to stand with the most vulnerable, defend human dignity and refuse to look away. #HumanDignity

worth tying this into the political economy of the slave south as well. from roughly the 1820s onwards, slavery became enormously lucrative in ways that had never been seen before. slave traders became millionaires. large planters had tremendous purchasing power. just huge amounts of wealth.

this enormous wealth is driving the ideological transformation as much as anything else. where once the defense of slavery was “we don’t know what else to do and besides we can’t let the blacks go free,” by the 1840s it is much closer to “slavery is the single greatest social system ever devised.”

The right-wing organizing around the Lindsay Clancy trial is growing and it’s frightening. A lot of people overlook these culture wars revolving around women’s issues, because, well, they’re women’s issues. But the right doesn’t. It’s how they regained such a massive cultural foothold.

This is exactly how the right creates popular support for taking away women’s rights. They position anyone with empathy for Clancy as the reason why women shouldn’t vote, serve on juries, have autonomy, or even exist in public. And they use this as propaganda to make those positions seem reasonable.

we should remember that vocabulary control is a tried-and-true cult indoctrination technique — both as a way to divide members from outsiders and to demonstrate the cults' power over their members' reality — and insistence on using farcical "Lake America" type names should be seen in that light.
