Artists are never poor, even when they are short on cash. AI ideologues are never poor, but in another sense, because their technology makes money cannibalizing the work of others.

The Catholic bishops of Alberta have released a pastoral letter related to the Alberta Independence referendum. The letter stops short of endorsing a yes or no (common in bishops' letters in the US and Canada) but the key considerations lean in a fairly obvious direction. caedm.ca/catholic-bis...

Have I considered the good of others alongside my own interests?

In 2018, the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith took steps officially to forbid support for the death penalty, adding a new directive to the catechism: “the death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and the dignity of the person.’”

What does the church teach about the death penalty?
The Catholic Church’s opposition to the death penalty developed in recent centuries. Today the church opposes the death penalty in all cases.

this speech about and to Europe by Leo XIV in Metz today is also a statement to Russia and to the USA, where Catholics in the Trump administration have articulated a vision of the "old continent" that is very different if not almost diametrically opposed.

One of the longest quotations in Leo XIV’s speeches in France appears in his address at Lourdes to the staff of the "Accueil Notre-Dame"; it is taken from "Evangelium Vitae" - a document whose importance is addressed in an important article in the latest issue of "Concilium", which I co-edited.

This trip to France by Leo XIV is an alternative way to mark the centenary of the 1926 condemnation of "Action Française" by Pius XI. This kind of public presence of the Church versus integralist and ethno-nationalist ideologies.

It would appear that Bishop Robert Barron, who has spoken at White House events and sits on Trump's religious freedom commission, has retweeted an apparently AI-created video of himself dressed as a cardinal. Note: Barron is not, in fact, a cardinal. He's the bishop of Winona–Rochester
A screenshot of a video, showing that it was retweeted by Bishop Barron. Barron, dressed in cardinal attire, stands amid a group of apparent priests. The video appears to be an AI-edited version of a music video, which does not originally feature priests or Barron.

John Cavadini (with whom one might well disagree on certain issues) has demonstrated fidelity to the Church in his theological and academic work. Yet, naturally, more-Catholic-than-the-pope social media activists are harping on Cavadini’s criticisms of "Summorum Pontificum". What a world.
