With great consistency, people who prefer authoritarianism to democracy envision themselves in charge. Could be them personally, could be vicarious, but they're always the boot, not the face. It's basically a way to say everyone should shut up and accept that we're doing my preferences, not theirs.

This is seismic news for fisheries scientists. Northern cod is *the* iconic symbol of total fisheries collapse due to overfishing (and other factors) *and* the iconic symbol of a complete failure to recover for decades afterwards. This is like announcing the complete recovery of bison on land.

A win! A federal appeals court upheld an EPA rule requiring polluters to help pay for cleaning up toxic PFAS “forever chemicals,” rejecting an industry challenge to the rule. This keeps the financial burden where it belongs on the companies responsible for the pollution!

Something from your field that everybody should know: When they say climate models predict ecosystems shifting northward, they aren't saying the plants will just pick up and move. They're saying the conditions for the ecosystems will move. The plants themselves will probably die and catch fire.

New inflation data out today and wow what can you say about these Alberta car insurance rates other than ... wow. 😳
Car insurance prices in Alberta have far outpaced every other province

Alberta is now at an index value of more than 400. No other province is above 250.

An index value of 100 is equal to the average price for insurance in Canada over all 12 months of 2002.
