You can get angry at the WB/Paramount merger. And you should. But it's also important to not crash out over things you cannot control. Your own life is more important than corporate interests.

On a related note, the London Film Festival lineup for this year has zero entries distributed by Warner Bros or Paramount. If the Ellisons and Zaslav want to monopolise the industry, then it's only fitting in a way that their own slate becomes less diverse and is shunned by groups like the BFI.

If there's anything we should take away from losing Dolly Parton, Tim Curry and Peter Cullen back to back to back, it's that we should aspire even more than ever to unapologetically do what we love most and bring joy to people's lives, so that we're remembered for the same reasons they will be.

We need a serious reckoning about the British press. We've had too many tragedies. And this whole saga was nothing but appealing to the worst, most prejudiced instincts of their writers and readers. They turned this into a cruel, relentless spectacle until a terrible outcome.

This past weekend, the new movie Project Hail Mary was a smash hit, bringing in nearly $141 million at the box office. But many years ago, before he was writing novels adapted into mega-hit films, Andy Weir was fired from his dream job... at Blizzard Entertainment. Excerpt from my latest book:

A big takeaway this year has to be that Sinners and One Battle After Another were big, artist driven, swings bankrolled by WB whose future is ultimately unclear. I like living in a world where people like PTA and Ryan Coogler get to make the films they want to make with those resources.

It's genuinely a shame what has happened with the BAFTAs last night. It's a very unfortunate incident, and the result of several failures, from not editing it from the telecast (the most critical error of all), to not acting fast enough in the aftermath, and they let down those involved.

As a fellow neurodivergent I fully echo Jack's sentiments, it's a film which truly embodies the role of cinema as a machine for empathy. It's also not out in America until April 24th so this will seriously help boost its profile over there.

As a ceremony this year's #Baftas were rather underwhelming, but I have no complaints when it comes to the actual winners. Robert Aramayo in particular deserved both of his and I Swear is a film that needs to be seen by more people, as does My Father's Shadow from Akinola Davies Jr.

From my time at London Film Festival last year, Anemone with Daniel Day-Lewis. The litany of rookie filmmaking mistakes and agonising pacing let it seethe, but the pretentious nature of it all and cop out ending had me - and quite a majority of my audience for that matter - absolutely fuming.

Jack Thorne's new adaptation of Lord of the Flies on iPlayer is really great stuff. None of my schools ever taught it so this was my first time experiencing it, and it's so devastating and impeccably well acted from the young cast. He's honestly one of my favourite screenwriters currently working.
