Agreed. It is unfair and unsustainable to flood free publication services like arXiv with an excessive amount of fast-track manuscripts. I recall a quote from Studio Ghibli in the film The Cat Returns: "Whenever someone creates something with all of their heart, then that creation is given a soul."

One of the reasons I'm interested in local AI models is you're data can't be used for training - people say “I already put my data in onedrive so what's the difference to uploading it to an AI model?” Well one difference is that onedrive won't use your data to scoop you

Strongly agree, and I am deeply concerned about demand management or the so-called internal peer review, which lacks nationwide regulation, transparency, or mechanisms to avoid conflicts of interest, potentially widening inequality, compromising mobility, and particularly, disadvantaging ECRs.

Although I always believe reviewers need to be acknowledged for their contribution, this paid peer review mode would increase the publishing charge significantly if a publisher expects to cover the reviewer cost without compromising their commercial interest. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Why paying peer reviewers works, according to a journal’s editor-in-chief
A biology journal that paid peer reviewers found that the approach cut the time to a first editorial decision by 85% and maintained high-quality reviews.

Why does it bother me when a manager or the CEO of my employer boasts about using Copilot to write their emails? This. This is why
A post by "rederiswrites" (with a photo of who I assume is Adam Conover in the background) that reads: "Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is *rude*.

It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't be bothered to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.

It's rude."
