The whole speech is good, but this part in particular is particularly relevant now. www.trumanlibrary.gov/library/publ...
A screenshot of a section of the linked speech by former President Harry Truman:

I've seen it happen time after time. When the Democratic candidate allows himself to be put on the defensive and starts apologizing for the New Deal and the fair Deal, and says he really doesn't believe in them, he is sure to lose. The people don't want a phony Democrat. If it's a choice between a genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time; that is, they will take a Republican before they will a phony Democrat, and I don't want any phony Democratic candidates in this campaign.

But when a Democratic candidate goes out and explains what the New Deal and fair Deal really are--when he stands up like a man and puts the issues before the people--then Democrats can win, even in places where they have never won before. It has been proven time and again.
We are getting a lot of suggestions to the effect that we ought to water down our platform and abandon parts of our program. These, my friends, are Trojan horse suggestions. I have been in politics for over 30 years, and I know what I am talking about, and I believe I know something about the business. One thing I am sure of: never, never throw away a winning program.
This is so elementary that I suspect the people handing out this advice are not really well-wishers of the Democratic Party.

The first time I try will be half-ass I promise
The first time I try will be half-ass I promise
How does the bug always sense that I’m about to kill it before I’ve even begun my wind up? I find that ability scarier to think about than the idea of being crushed by a giant myself. What do they know?

I do not want you to explain to me how it works. Listen to me. I do not want you to explain that or anything.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to describe the feeling of watching a period piece film and knowing with certainty that you at one point knew quite a bit about the historical events in question but all you can say for certain now is that you in fact used to know something you have since forgotten and so it's basically like you're just aware of a hole. Not in the world but inside of yourself.

Do you remember driving up a perilously twisting mountain road to a cabin one of our friends had rented? There was no phone signal and we simply could not find it in the dark. The snow so heavy it wasn’t just blowing sideways it was falling in reverse too. Recycling itself in a loop from ground to sky and back again. It was so cold out the windshield wiper fluid had frozen solid in the little tubes so every few hundred yards I had to pull over and pour some out from a spare bottle I had in the trunk onto the windshield until it all inevitably froze over again. Then when that was gone we poured out the last of our drinking water.

We don’t see any of those people anymore.

Something about the world looks wrong to me now. Like when they tell you a TV show is set in New York but you go come on man I know that’s Toronto. There’s a Canadian Tire in the establishing shot.

Yesterday I sent off a portion of my money to help feed the war refugees and today I sent another portion of it to my government to manufacture more of them. I thought of watering the lawn during a drought just to have to mow it later on.

They call it mowing the lawn over there. When they kill everybody. I don’t think I’ll forget that.

When Australia let foreign capital take the kind of control over their airports that Carney is proposing in Canada, Brisbane airport raised its per-passenger fees by more than two thirds, and travellers were squeezed for more than $1.6 billion in extra fees. shrlnk.ca/s/zJo0ZyYu
A picture of airplanes at Sydney airport. Text over the image reads:

Australia "attracted international investment" by privatizing four airports. In the next decade, they charged air travellers $1.6 Billion in extra fees to push up their profits at public expense.
