Chump voters don't understand (and wouldn't care if they did understand) the position they've put others they supposedly love into, and are mad that their decisions are having long-term, serious consequences.

I have a coworker with a chronically ill kid and an anti-vax friend with a kid of similar age. The anti-vax friend has adopted the position she’s being “persecuted for her beliefs” because my coworker literally CAN. NOT. let their kids play together.

This has been a slowly metastasizing moral panic for years: Liberals, drunk on therapy-speak, are cutting off their parents over minor slights and miscommunications. There is little evidence of the underlying phenomenon and even less of the cause. Look at this egregiously thin nut graf.
Although exact figures are scarce, the number of people cutting off close kin — particularly children cutting off parents — appears to be rising. Some speculate that therapists offering a speciously easy solution to a seemingly untenable problem are to blame

Rank and file Republicans are turning against LGBT acceptance and GOP politicians are leaning into bigotry in both rhetoric and policy. But it is you, the progressive queer or ally, who needs to open your mind and consider other people's feelings. news.gallup.com/poll/710810/...
Most of the recent changes in LGBTQ+ attitudes have occurred among Republicans. For example, in 2021 and 2022, 55% of Republicans said they favored legal same-sex marriage, but today, the figure is 37%. Among independents, support has dropped six points, to 67%, while Democrats’ views are the same as in 2022 (87% in favor).

Kabbalah didn't start from nothing. It was a whole process, and these first streams of post-Temple mystical literature are the foundation-- to mix some metaphors. It's hard to really understand what came later if you don't have a context for this. Part two is coming up this week:

Here’s my piece on the “now-completed demolition” of the Voting Rights Act in @thenation.com The VRA is the most important piece of legislation in American history. It more than anything is what ended American-style apartheid. And now Republicans have killed it.

The Supreme Court Has Completed Its Quest to Kill the Voting Rights Act
In its 6-3 decision, the court gutted the legislation that ended apartheid in this country—and once again gave white people the ability to suppress Black political power.

Justice Thurgood Marshall, dissenting in Mobile v. Alabama, which gave us the 1982 amendments to the Voting Rights Act of 1965 that the Supreme Court just nullified in Louisiana v. Callais. Every word applies to the current majority: tile.loc.gov/storage-serv...
A screenshot of a dissenting opinion, which reads, in part:

"It is time to realize that manipulating doctrines and drawing
improper distinctions under the Fourteenth and Fifteenth
Amendments, as well as under Congress' remedial legislation
enforcing those Amendments, make this Court an accessory
to the perpetuation of racial discrimination."

In more exciting news, I made the best Cornish game hen I’ve ever made in my entire life yesterday. Salt, pepper, garlic powder, and 5 spice powder for the outside. Chopped ginger and shallots, crushed garlic, a tad of orange juice and some orange peel zest for the cavity. IT WAS SO GOOD.

It’s not that we don’t have an independent *judiciary*. It’s that we don’t have an independent *Supreme Court*. Lower federal courts have been standing up to the Trump administration only for SCOTUS to come through on an emergency application on the shadow docket and say “Nuh uh.”

The new technology that is going to actually transform this century is being able to manufacture and deliver solid state batteries at scale. There are so many applications for this, all of which will replace fossil fuels at a scale not seen before and enable things we have not yet dreamed of.
