Stars and Dust in the Pacman Nebula - © Malcolm Loro - Pic - HD Pic - About Astronomy Picture Of the Day #astrophotos Maintained by @shinyakato.dev 🔭 READ MORE 🔭
Stars can create huge and intricate dust sculptures from the dense and dark molecular clouds from which they are born. The tools the stars use to carve their detailed works are high energy light and fast stellar winds. The heat they generate evaporates the dark molecular dust as well as causing ambient hydrogen gas to disperse and glow. Pictured here, a new open cluster of stars designated IC 1590 is nearing completion around the intricate interstellar dust structures in the emission nebula NGC 281, dubbed the Pac-man Nebula because of its overall shape. The dust cloud just above center is classified as a Bok Globule as it may gravitationally collapse and form a star -- or stars. The Pacman Nebula lies about 10,000 light years away toward the constellation of Cassiopeia.

Since a lot of you liked the supernova pic, let’s do another #astrophotography share. This time, it’s Comet Leonard! 💫 Caught this in the mountains with the Scooby Gang. Stuck my DSLR camera onto my telescope and took a few snaps. That green glow is due to sunlight destroying diatomic carbon.
Four tile image showing a comet. The front of the comet had a green bow which and the trailing component is more diffuse and white-yellow. There are numerous stars in the background.

NGC 6357 The Lobster Nebula in the constellation Scorpius. Personally, I think it looks more like the Flying Spaghetti Monster. ED127 scope, CDS modified Canon 1100D. I'm guessing around 2.5hr of data. (original data lost due to corrupted hdd :( ) #astronomy #astrophotography

A forming star in molecular cloud L1527 is the dot at the center. Why do near-and mid-infrared observations from #NASAWebb show such different views of its ejections? Find this answer, and more detail about Webb’s recent discoveries: webbtelescope.pub/3Yp62P5 🔭 🧪
Two views of the same object, a forming protostar surrounded by a large hourglass-shaped nebula known as L1527. Webb’s near-infrared image is at left, and its mid-infrared image is at right. The hourglass is slightly larger in near-infrared. Here, a bright orange protostar lies at the center, where the two triangles meet. In front of the protostar is a thin grey line, its accretion disk. Above the protostar is an orange, triangular cloud of gas that points to the top left. Below the protostar is another triangular cloud of gas that points to the bottom right. The area closest to the protostar is a blend of pronounced blue and orange plumes of gas. At right, the mid-infrared image shows a bright red central region, where the protostar resides, with a thin, gray lane cutting through it horizontally, the protostar’s accretion disk. Above and below this region are white and blue triangular-shaped cavities in the molecular cloud, which give the overall object an hourglass shape.

Sunday night's waning gibbous Moon. 🔭
A telescopic image of the Moon in the waning gibbous phase. 92% of the side facing Earth is illuminated by sunlight. Many impact craters are visible along with smooth, dark lunar plains.

Pink Moonrise 🌕 I consider this to be one of my most iconic images, or at least one of my favorites! #astrophotography #photography 🔭
The nearly full moon rises over sunset lit clouds which glow a brilliant bright pink. The sky is a much lighter blue than normal, due to the same sunset conditions that color the clouds. The moon has incredible detail, but because of the size of the image a low resolution version had to be used for this post. PSA: prints of this image are available on my website at fallbrookastro.com 🔭

Meteor from my timelapse on November 14, 2024 at 9:44pm MST from Crestone, Colorado USA 🔭 📷 #astrophotography
A bright meteor strikes from top left to bottom right. The tail at top left stars out reddish-orange, turns yellow then brilliant green. The terminal streak is also reddish-yellow. There are some clouds low in the frame that do not obscure the meteor. Stars sprinkle the background. Three flashes of an airplane light are at the bottom left.

View of NASA's Perseverance rover during its descent to Mars, captured from the rover's perspective. The released heat shield, dark silver in color, is visible in the center of the image against the Martian landscape. In the background, the rim of Jezero Crater and its delta, including the Belva Crater, can be seen. The colors shift from the dark hues of the upper atmosphere to the reddish tones of the Martian surface.

Good morning friends! Welcome to Monday! Here’s today’s #SunriseMagic on the #CTShoreline There was drama in the sky this morning! Take care of yourself. Go outside and just breathe.
First light. Clouds blanket the sky and the sun has begun painting the sky. The water is calm. Reflections of the sky and trees are on the water. The fire in the sky! Bright red colors over the trees and splashing into the clouds. The water is reflecting the sky and trees on calm waters.A closer look at the fire in the sky over the trees.Sunrise and gray clouds dominate the shoreline.
