What keeps me hopeful is how effective humor and ridicule can be. Authoritarianism feeds on fear and seriousness; laughter punctures that. When people can see power made absurd, it becomes less intimidating and easier to question.

I joined an ICE protest in West Seattle this afternoon. As we walked between junctions, people came out of their homes in tears, visibly shaken by this morning’s news. Strangers hugged them, telling them it would be OK when we had no confidence it actually would be.

Our initial analysis is up. The video footage appears to show that the gun was taken away from the man before he was shot. He was UNARMED before any of the shots were fired.
