We're repeatedly told that asylum seekers pose a threat to the good people of our country... Reading about the threatening and violent treatment of elderly and open minded locals in Crowborough I get the impression that the real threat comes from closer to home. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
On Facebook and other platforms, people
who are known to support the asylum
seekers have been threatened with acid
attacks, petrol bombs and rape. The dossier.
which has been seen by the Guardian, also
claims that several local businesses have
been threatened by far-right agitators, along
with a church where some asylum seekers
worship. One man was punched in the throat
after he held up a "Love Thy Neighbour"
sign, while an elderly couple were falsely
accused of supporting sex offenders. In yet
another case, a 92-year-old church volunteer
was reportedly woken at 3am for two nights
in a row by a man standing outside her
home, shining a torch through her window
and shouting abuse

🍂 This week’s @artukdotorg.bsky.social #OnlineArtExchange theme is Autumn. We’re sharing Dame Laura Knight’s Autumn Sunlight, Sennen Cove, Cornwall, owned by Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. Knight’s years in Cornwall inspired many landscapes, where she captured its light, people and character. 🎨
An oil painting shows a coastal valley with a beach, green hills, small cottages, two donkeys, and three children standing on a grassy hillside.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Irresponsible, ill-informed reporting. They don't award PIP to teenagers just because they've collected a rubber stamp, it's a gruelling process. And the system is changing so 16 & 17 year olds can stay on their childhood DLA, because they're children. www.greatyarmouthmercury.co.uk/news/2657580...

People aren’t faking their disabilities, they’re faking being well. We know society hates us. We know we will be judged for using assistive devices. Many of us take years to get the courage to lean in to accommodations. Stop judging. Help us build a more inclusive world.

Stolpersteine carry a weight so much larger than their small size; 14 yr old and I were struck silent by them this spring. In a lovely friendly town, the stones told us that it could happen here, had happened here. And if there, then also in our own English home town.

It's been a while, baby. Bracing oneself. Relearning the art of reading with one's hands over one's eyes.
The front cover of a battered copy of Young Miles by Lois McMaster Bujold. It's an omnibus volume containing the novels The Warrior's Apprentice and The Vor Game, and the story The Mountains of Mourning. The less said about the cover design the better.

It's great to see tailoring accommodate such extreme movement today. This level of tailoring was a bit more common in the past, as you can see in old films featuring Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly, but many modern suits will lift off the wearer's neck even when they're just walking.

Why does the RNLI launch to small boats in the English Channel?
RNLI lifeboat crews have always launched to the rescue without judgement or preference. Men, women and children in danger in the Channel are no exception.

I've tried to write fiction, & I can't. Just can't. The whatever-it-is isn't there for me. But there's not exactly a shortage of really great authors who *can* write fiction, & they need readers. So my vital contribution to literature is buying & borrowing & reading & shouting about great books.
