Every year in Metro Vancouver, car crashes kill 100 people. We can get to zero by demanding governments design transportation systems to put safety first. linkin.bio/visionzeroyvr

Vehicle crashes are a significant source of preventable injury and death in Vancouver, and traffic-related fatalities have skyrocketed under ABC, who have taken no meaningful steps to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, seniors, and schoolchildren. We can change that.

Movement: Metro Vancouver Transit Riders @movementyvr.bsky.social · 21h
This morning, both the BC Conservatives and the BC NDP ruled out a vehicle levy to fund public transit in Metro Vancouver. This despite the vehicle levy being commonly used in other cities, including Montreal, Seattle, and the bustling metropolis of Gatineau, Quebec.

Since money doesn't grow on trees, funding for TransLink will ultimately come down to taxpayers one way or another. The government's choice is to either pick the least bad way, or to let transit collapse.

More money for drivers, less money for transit. Our "progressive" government hard at work.

Implement the five calls to action for municipalities of the Battered Women Support Services (BWSS):
- A Vancouver Intimate Partner Violence task force.
- Support for community-based victim services, outreach, and transition houses for women fleeing violence.
- Strengthening local data collection on intimate partner violence.

- Reduce pedestrian fatalities in Vancouver by taking actions that save lives, including speed limit reductions, permanent school zones, and protected bike lanes.
- Establish better lighting and safety protocols for walking and cycling in public parks.
- Fund curb cuts, re-paint pedestrian crossings, and create more left-turn lanes on busy roads.
- Continue to fight against ultra-bright headlights that increase road risk.

Sometimes the WAR ON WALKING results in no sidewalks at all. Sometimes they put “something” in — but does that really make things walkable for anyone except those without any other choices? The #WARonWALKING takes many forms, but it’s always about making things comfortable for vehicles, not people.
Image of a wide concrete overpass with a huge truck travelling dangerously close to a thin, uncomfortable looking concrete “sidewalk.” The text says “Don’t buy the lie that there’s a war on cars. They’ve been waging a war on walking for a century.” Tagline at the bottom says the Urban Truth Collective. #UrbanTruth #WarOnCars

Road safety is safety and yet the VPD has handed over 60% less road fines than 10 years ago. With a lot more cars on the roads. The explanation is simple, their budget is now so big they don’t need the fines to operate anymore. So road safety is not a priority anymore.
