Every year in Metro Vancouver, car crashes kill 100 people. We can get to zero by demanding governments design transportation systems to put safety first. linkin.bio/visionzeroyvr

Distraction is the second leading cause of fatal crashes in our region and province. We hope that all candidates take that seriously, especially those from a party campaigning on public safety. (Video from ABC School Board Candidate Lina Vargas on Instagram)

More money for drivers, less money for transit. Our "progressive" government hard at work.

In this very residential area, it's a 10 minute walk just to cross the street at the nearest crossing. This is the consequence of building a city for cars first and people second.

Really fantastic to see "reduce pedestrian fatalities" in the COPE public safety pillar of their platform, with tangible concrete actions. Great work from @copevancouver.bsky.social recognizing that road safety = public safety.

Really fascinating talk from Andrea. A lot to it, hard to summarize! Basically, those with the power to make decisions are usually also those who are already doing well.

ICYMI: the VPD budget increased by 48% from 2018 to 2024, but the number of traffic tickets they issue has fallen by 59% over that same time period. Why has traffic enforcement evaporated in Vancouver?

Warning, hearing first-hand reports that the VPD are ticketing cyclists westbound at 1st & Crowe. There's a VPD parking lot on the right and a cop hit a cyclist there recently. Approx 0% of cars stop at this stop sign but they specifically said they're only targetting cyclists.

These small plazas beside parks are great. Very cheap to install - basically just add a car barrier on each end of the existing paved road. Would love to see them way more across the city! Doesn't need to necessarily be beside a park either.

We did our first group blood donation on Monday! 4 of us were first-time donors, everybody did great with no adverse effects. If you've ever been nervous to donate let this be your sign: it's not that scary and there are lots of free snacks!
A group of Vision Zero volunteers smile and hold up a sign saying "Saving lives with Vision Zero Vancouver Society" in front of a Canadian Blood Services backdrop at the donor centre.

Here's what it looked like with repaving done for the crosswalk install (painting was done later on the same day, doing this makes the paint lines last longer)
Freshly repaved intersection with no painted roadway markings. Busy 6th avenue is visible with several cars along it

The City of Vancouver has painted a new crosswalk at Oak and 6th. This was installed on June 19th, just over 2 months after a fatal hit-and-run in this intersection. What other upgrades would you want to see here?

FICTION: @petermeiszner.bsky.social claimed the Vision Zero plan would lower the speed on "streets like Boundary Rd, Clark, Knight St." FACT: The report clearly references streets with "high pedestrian activity" and "busy shopping streets." Did Peter even read the report before gutting it?

The actual plan, which we're sure none of them read, was to reduce speeds on select arterials with high commercial and pedestrian volume. Streets like Denman, Main, or Commercial Drive. These are the streets where 93% of road fatalities occur.

ABC isn't on here but they're over on the other site spreading misinformation about the VZ Action Plan, and also making it abundantly clear that they are choosing driver speed over human life. (1/3)

BREAKING: Mayor Ken Sim's ABC majority voted not to reduce speed limits on major roads, despite 93% of all road fatalities in Vancouver happening on arterials. This was one of the most important Near-Term Actions in the entire plan, because roads will never be safe until people drive at safe speeds.
