This does not work. You cannot make Xue Yang evil purely for funsies and have it scan as an actually believable motivation. The reasons to make Xue Yang evil are: extravagant vengeance, being obsessed with Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan, and the most unhinged PhD thesis project you've ever conceived of.

People writing Yi City fic where "Songxiao could have had a good ending if they'd just killed Xue Yang" are operating fundamentally counter to the themes I like in Yi City: care, justice, and altruism changed Xue Yang to the core, but it came too late to save them.
