As we enter a new quarter, time for an update on games industry layoffs. As you can see here we're well past 50k people known to be impacted since 2020 in over 800 incidents. with 3 months to go, 2026 could end as the worst year on record. 55% of known layoff waves in 2026 have unknown headcounts.

Do you mean “can the arts business model survive monopolies?” Half of the story here is of concentration of power in a quasi-monopsony (eg Spotify) and a de facto monopoly (LiveNation). That’s what’s actually killing the arts.
