This afternoon in Marble Hill, a New Yorker was shot by an ICE agent in a residential neighborhood. Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds. We believe the child was physically unharmed.

This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities.

Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery.

Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children.

Abolish ICE.

So many parents use children as tools and ego extensions. But kids grow up, and lunge for freedom—and like all tyrants, toxic parents use every dirty trick they can find to retain or hunt down what they see as escaped chattel. It's gross. And weird. And deserves mockery as well as a closed door.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. I have neither the time nor the energy to list more. Nobody is estranged from their parents for *fun*. There is no “epidemic” of estrangement. What exists is a recently gained measure of freedom in pushing back against toxic, power-mad emotional dictators.

I'd never heard it contextualized this way before, but it totally makes sense. Of course you're gonna have a complicated fixation on liminal spaces if you've grown up in an age where every public space is aggressively, deliberately designed to say "fuck off! You shouldn't be here."

The average increase on code volume after the adoption of agentic AI studying 700 firms is 4,000 additional lines of code per programmer. The advantage of junior engineers writing code without the use of AI is senior engineers had to spend less time on code reviews.

Basically AI allows software engineers to produce shitty code *faster* and in higher volumes which increases the amount time spent on code reviews and revisions nullifying the productivity gained from producing the code in the first place.

this is why vibecoded code is garbage. It's shit in the same way AI images and AI writing is, where you can tell it's a pastiche of stolen shit. and when you hear bsky devs or whoever say "it's fine, we looks over it all!" unless your job is reading 50k lines of fucking useless code, no you didn't

so if it fucks up and creates a massive memory leak because it can't plan ahead like you need to be able to when you code, if you want to fix that- you have no idea where it happened, how it happened, or how to fix it, because you didn't write any of it, and so to fix things? you just re-prompt it

this is badass lol but like, if you aren't aware, this is how vibecoding works and why it's so dangerous. to code you need to plan ahead, AI is incapable of doing that- it just regurgitates random shit- so if you need to fix or change something, you're fucked. You just have to re-generate it all

it is constantly on my mind because hundreds of people die every day from drug overdose, chiefly synthetic opioids, at roughly twice the rate of fatal car crashes in the united states. it's an abject policy failure and public health catastrophe the way that we approach substances in this country.

the geopolitical aspect is trivially true (pretense to extract minerals and oil from latin america), the public health failure is again trivially true (drug overdose deaths have largely only increased since 1970, but peaked in 2022), and the dissident squashing is trivially true (lsd & weed Sch I).

you simply cannot have one without the other. there is no "Well, we could do just a little bit of prohibition" as thinking that is true is merely an acceptance of the farce justification by the united states to leverage control and power over latin america, along with squashing political dissidents.

sometimes i feel like people understand that the war on drugs is a failure across every front (# of drugs in country, # of drug users, utility of spending, millions dead, millions incarcerated, etc), but don't internalize that it necessitates entirely rethinking societal relationship to substances.

Fun fact: Tesla went with a giant touchscreen instead of knobs for the Model 3 purely to save time and money. Knobs would have required spinning up a whole supply chain. The company spun it as a luxury feature and much of the industry followed suit. But it was always an inferior substitute.

One thing I find endlessly funny about the rise of AI is that it has revealed that there is a large number of people who believe that the reason they wrote essays at school or university is their teachers were desperately waiting for them to provide a definite answer to “Lear: what’s up with him?”

the thing that gets me about these absolutely god awful ghouls like wayne berner is that they correct point out problems (an excess of transit agencies and corresponding lack of cohesive regional planning) and think the solution is wagging your finger at them to send them a lesson. No you dumb fuck.

unfortunately the median voter is a lead-poisoned mouth-breathing self-centered moron. Ah well.
When Wayne Berner, 72, moved to the Bay Area in 1994, he was stunned to find that the region has 27 different transit agencies. He grew up in the South Side of Chicago and frequently used the three transit agencies to easily get around. But the Discovery Bay resident, who is retired, has found public transit much less convenient in the Bay Area.

Over the years, Berner has used transit to get to baseball games at the Oakland Coliseum, but beyond that, he hasn’t found it very practical. He once tried to take BART to the San Francisco International Airport, but the trains don’t start running until around 5 a.m., making an early flight next to impossible. When he lived in San Ramon, he tried to find a good route for his children to take to school in Concord, but the roughly 20-mile trip would take an hour, maybe longer if they needed to transfer.

Berner will be voting “no” on the Regional Transit Measure in November. He feels that BART especially hasn’t done enough to “control costs.”

“I look at it like, why do you throw more money at a dysfunctional transportation system?” he said. “If the 27 agencies actually sat down and said, ‘OK, we need to really do something,’ I think you get rid of them, you know, unify all those authorities under one or two umbrellas and call it a day. But there’s so much repetition in administrative and leadership costs.”Spohn feels similarly to Berner. He’s lived in a home he owns in the unincorporated Santa Clara County community of San Martin for nearly 40 years. Located south of Morgan Hill and north of Gilroy, the area has limited access to transit. Caltrain doesn’t run service to its two southernmost stations on the weekend, and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority only operates buses in South County.

Spohn, who is retired, said that because of the high cost of living in the Bay Area, he will never vote in favor of another tax or bond measure.

“You’d have to really convince me why I should have to pay a lot more money for something I don’t use,” he said.
