i think cox should spend less time weeping about polarization and more time working to convince his co-partisans not to abandon pluralism and liberal democracy

I'm tempted to mute the never-ending Will Stancil economic sentiment discussion because it takes up half of my timeline. I think he has a point that economic sentiment being lower than the GFC signifies a disconnect between feelings and reality.

Weird how both Brexit and MAGA - two supposedly populist and antielitist projects - ended up promoting elite immunity from any legal consequences. Almost as if that was the goal from the very beginning, while the low-info voters who supported this are irrelevant and expendable.

I've been to the Kennedy Center. I've always enjoyed it's place architecturally on the DC Waterfront. I don't want to see it torn down. With that said, tearing it down in mid-October with $5/gallon gas and $7/gallon diesel might start testing the waters for something greater than a D+15 Midterm.

I saw a clip where the anti-Mamdani families went to City Hall yesterday and the media to family member ratio was well over 10:1. That should tell people everything they need to know about this so-called "controversy."

Seems like there is a lession here that a lot of Dem politicians would do well to internalize.

I know as Dems we love to doom, and in a lot of cases for good reason. However, in retrospect Dems sweeping statewide offices in Arizona in a midterm where our party held the presidency is really a terrible omen for the Rs.

This whole thing where Trump is claiming credit for a drop in prescription drug prices when Biden signed the legislation that allowed negotiating those prices highlights a big frustration of mine. Dems need to stop passing legislation where the public doesn't see the benefits for years.

The Wisconsin primary should be a wake-up call that we need ranked choice voting in primaries.

I have a possible theory on Trump's current expedition in Iran. As Trump is insanely jealous of Obama, he was hoping he would get adoration and maybe a nomination for a real peace prize for a deal and ending the war (that he started). Once that didn't happen, he didn't care if the world burned.

Georgia might blueshift above the national average but I think something is happening everywhere. A national environment where we can lock up the House without any seats in CA would be key. I think the Pratt nonsense was him priming the pump to challenge any CA returns after election night.

I got involved in some rural voter discussion and I guess where I stand is here: We shouldn't deprive people in those areas of basic things we believe in but we also need to stop doing extra things for them thinking more of them will like us. That is the behavior of the abused toward their abuser.

I predict the GOP is going to try to preempt state and local regulations against data centers to help their donor buddies. Johnson and Thune are probably smart enough to wait until the lame duck session as even a lot of Rs are anti-data center. Trump will probably force the issue sooner.

Starting a mid-decade redistricting war only to end up with -1 seats is the same fine strategic genius and subtle grasp of game theory that brough us the Strait of Hormuz.

If you want the Democrats to do something, you have to actually vote for them and not just get mad at them when you don’t. I hope that helps and I’m not being sarcastic because some of you really don’t seem to understand this at all.

Today’s warped, far-right Christianity in one tweet: Killing people in an unnecessary war is less offensive than recognizing the existence of transgender people.
Look, I don’t think it’s appropriate. Wish he hadn’t. But if I have to choose between this and Trans Recognition Day or whatever on Easter, okay.

If we get out of this, we need real systematic reform And we need to start identifying the people who are willing to do that and give them support and the people who are not and get rid of them

yep. i can identify any number of structural issues but at the end of the day the basic problem is the republican party. this has been apparent for at least 20 years. it is also an incredibly unpopular observation to make among “serious” people.

I've thought for a long time that a lot of our problems stemmed from people not being to tell reality from fantasy in the media they consume. Reality TV exasperated this now AI seems like it will make it even worse.

There's always this ongoing thing about "X" election being the most important election of our lives. However, I think there is an argument that the 2022 midterms were the most important up to this point in that they put Dems in charge of elections in most swing states. This greatly narrows...

We need to normalize thinking about large-scale prosecutions of this admin as inevitable. Cabinet members on down to ICE stormtroopers are going to face justice for their rampage of criminality. And the public needs to know details of what happened. The murders, the bribes and embezzlement.

I must confess that I was concerned after the 2024 election. Concerned we’d be so demoralized that we’d simply give up. There were some hints it wouldn’t be the case (protests, special elections, etc.), but still I worried. I now know those fears were misguided. We showed up, we fought, we won.

In regard to the Ezra Klein thing: hasn't the last two weeks shown everyone that people on the right don't want to have difficult conversations? They tried to cancel anyone who expressed anything but a glowing opinion of Charlie Kirk. They aren't open to different opinions at all.

The Dems reminding these spineless fools that there can be consequences down the road is a good start. Ultimately, this crap won't stop until they are convinced that the consequences for complying outweigh the consequences for not complying. That will take full court press by Dems and the public.
