Have you ever felt like something was missing from your #fmri results? Have you been worried about potential reproducibility issues? Well, this new @natmethods.nature.com article with 40+ coauthors shows how the simple change to transparent thresholding helps both. Go Figure! rdcu.be/B4tikBETdQZa
A comparison of old and new thresholding approaches for fMRI data. The newer, transparent thresholding allows for interpreting context, more complete modeling, a reduction of biases and an increase in meaningful content. This all leads to more accurate interpretations and improved reproducibility evaluations.

Interesting work! Small framing point: gaze-linked variance may reflect meaningful cognition and overlap with broader latent brain states, so regressing it may remove FC not uniquely attributable to gaze. Perhaps “gaze-adjusted FC” is preferable to “gaze denoising.”

New paper 🧵! There's a lot of interest in how brain regions represent information in fMRI. One popular approach uses searchlights that roam across the brain to decode conditions. We built a method to uncover the sub-networks within searchlight maps.

I see this a lot, why we focus so much on visualization, but i think this sentence "Ultimately, contemporary AI is research misconduct" might have more impact as: "Uncritical deployment of AI can replicate the harms associated with questionable research practices"...just a suggestion.

viscerene, audene, etc. ;-) Seems simpler to stick with something like phantom (interoceptive) sensations, or perhaps coin a less modality specific term like "perceptene".

When I worked at a nonprofit we did not accept grants at less than the NIH F&A rate since we would need unrestricted funds to make up the gap/loss (it's not allowed to use NIH funds to make that up), and we did not have enough in unrestricted funding to do this. Indirects are covering real costs.

Do you really think it has been money making? At most places I've been the perspective is that research needs to be supplemented, and there are never enough funds to go around. This will dramatically increase the needed supplement.

nice work, should be published. This concept is not really new, we have been using simple correlation to check for duplicate subjects over 20 years. Works quite well for gray matter, resting networks, functional connectivity, FA, etc. It's also not specific to MRI, basically pattern analysis.

Yes, although it depends on the computation. Sharing case wise errors is information leakage, which is fine in many cases, but in some cases may not be (site summaries of this information are less so and also useful). Results and model sharing is a good way to go (this is what we do in COINSTAC).
