The playbook the right used here is effective even though it's not especially sophisticated, as it relies on the audience to do the dirty work. German democracy was crumbling in front of our eyes daily since the start of the Gaza genocide but it was keep calm and carry on for large part of the society. IT is easier to oppose fascism when it is embodied in a fascist party as the AfD than in the daily actions of centre left & green politics.

What do people think now of academic conferences? As a parent of young kids I hardly go to any these days, here there would have some fomo thoughts. We had serious discussions in the first two Covid years how to rethink academic exchange and transform the conferencing model, but see nothing from it.
