Things I think about some days: Who funded the Vanderbilt and WashU reports? What pot of money did this come from if it was the institutions themselves? How much funding was it?

Texas legislators and universities can’t claim to support viewpoint diversity while endorsing viewpoint discrimination. Genuine intellectual diversity requires allowing competing perspectives—even unpopular ones—to be expressed, examined, and debated.

I find it striking that some of the loudest opponents of DEI and race-conscious affirmative action in higher education now demand what amounts to affirmative action for conservative and far-right political viewpoints—often under the banner of “intellectual diversity.”

ICE has abducted a college athlete. What are the NCAA and universities going to do about it?
Aminata Seck’s detention shows the bargain facing international college athletes: universities eagerly recruit them, but support can disappear when their immigration status becomes precarious.

I’ve been suspicious of Vanderbilt admin from jump, but this is even worse than I expected
The Vanderbilt board claims that it is implementing its devotion to institutional neutrality, and compels it to an extraordinary degree: "the university will implement a policy of institutional neutrality that requires university leaders at all levels to abstain from actions or speech relating to political and social matters that are not directly connected to its core purpose."
This means that all university leaders—including program heads and department chairs—will be banned from any speech at any time discussing any political matters that the board deems to stray from the core
purpose.
