ICE has abducted Senegalese WBB player Aminata Seck and won't release her. DHS 'policy' is to provide medical care to prisoners at intake, yet they admit to denying her care for an ACL injury for 1.5 months. The NCAA is letting it happen, despite its predatory recruitment of ICAs. We explain.

Aminata Seck’s detention shows the bargain facing international college athletes: universities eagerly recruit them, but support can disappear when their immigration status becomes precarious.

I’ve been suspicious of Vanderbilt admin from jump, but this is even worse than I expected
The Vanderbilt board claims that it is implementing its devotion to institutional neutrality, and compels it to an extraordinary degree: "the university will implement a policy of institutional neutrality that requires university leaders at all levels to abstain from actions or speech relating to political and social matters that are not directly connected to its core purpose."
This means that all university leaders—including program heads and department chairs—will be banned from any speech at any time discussing any political matters that the board deems to stray from the core
purpose.

For example:
As a community, we need to keep in mind that although research is central to MIT’s mission, it’s more than an end in itself; on our campus, research is also an apprenticeship, a means of training the next generation of researchers to continue our work and drive our fields of inquiry forward. Using research as an opportunity for learning-by-doing may produce seeming “inefficiencies,” but that’s a feature, not a bug.

A focus on our humanity should also alert us to the fact that common current remedies for the problems AI creates can risk damaging the relationships between and among teachers and students. For instance, many instructors recounted that having to “police” unauthorized AI use was harming their connection to students (a dynamic made worse by the fact that, as we learned, AI detection software is quite unreliable). For their part, students fear being wrongly accused of AI cheating and are increasingly frustrated by instructors’ use of AI in areas that demand a human touch, such as grading, assignment creating, and feedback. Such an underground river of mutual suspicion is no foundation for a healthy classroom.

There are two reasons, I think, why anthropology is the focus of recent critiques of the humanities (see Vanderbilt report). 1st, anthropological theories of culture have been foundational for the 'culture' concepts in other 'humanities' disciplines, so if you attack it, you undermine everyone else
