This week Friends of the Earth was part of a coalition of campaigners demanding that the UK government rejects the Rosebank and Jackdaw fields and says no to all new oil and gas. Maxxing out the North Sea won't benefit people, the planet or the economy. 🧵👇 Photo credit: Fossil Free London

Think Burnham was always going to get enough benefit of the doubt from left of centre voters in Holborn and St Pancras to win, but the Greens carrying on that age old left tradition of needlessly getting into a scrap with themselves aided Labour. It should certainly have been closer.

Zack Polanski & the Greens have had a bad week. This is a measure of their success that they are now judged by higher standards than before. The Greens matter electorally & their enemies have noticed. Polanski should have won Holborn & St Pancras; but it did take Farage EIGHT occasions.

This is absolutely correct. It went exceptionally well for the Lib Dems and really helped counter the nut job ideology of the Tories at the time. No credibility damage either. Note to Farage too - you can only shape political discourse while in power. Excellent point.

The likely reaction of the UK press to the Holborn & St Pancras by-election: A Green win = A terrifying victory for the woke Islamoleftist, antisemitic insurgency. Polanski is Turbo Corbyn. A Labour win = A return to flaccid centrism & the Monoparty consensus. Polanski is finished.
