To be clear, it would make ZERO difference to my personal or professional life. Actually, scratch that. It would make both of them better, because I wouldn't have to consciously avoid consuming their output.

Not hyperbole, just the simple truth. Trans people are a "huge problem in a sane world" (Helen Lewis). Stopping kids getting care blocks the pipeline. They can't accept that trans people, exist, because in their mental model of the world they don't. And they want to force reality into that model.

journalism is more a good like education, not a personal consumption choice but a prerequisite for our collective life. that it is costly to produce doesn’t mean it’s right that it’s financed and distributed according to the same logic as sandwiches, seasoned to consumer taste, have it your way.

Ok, everyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but: the Parliamentary Labour party is not "the government." All parties in the UK (even the Greens) contain multitudes. It is not only possible but inevitable that the executive may enact policy which is unpopular with the party.

I believe fraternity hazing and military hazing and sports team hazing where men abuse each other is acclimating them into a broader culture of abuse where they will then believe it is their right to abuse other more vulnerable people. It’s so insidious. And that’s also why I think men defend it

Indeed. This point can't be stressed enough. "Sex-based" is a term we've always used to describe *discrimination*, and its sudden mainstreaming as pseudo-feminism in the UK reveals it as a poison that unravels the entire liberal democratic architecture of civil rights. I wrote about it here.

Rights are by definition universal, rights only granted to a few are privilegies. Suddenly the whole conversation makes a lot more sense; they are percieving themselves to be a privilegied class, protecting their societal position from their inferiors. They guard the Patriarchy against erosion.

A man replied to this saying in earnest that women need to get organized and fight for our rights and men will follow. We did that. We do that. We mobilized the largest single day protest in global history on every continent and yet I have fewer rights than my mom did at my age.

For those wondering: the "conversion therapy ban" currently mooted by Labour will do nothing to change this. In fact it will entrench it in the NHS because of a strong presumption of innocence for medical providers (whether registered or not)

I don't love dunking on folks but it's so fucking funny to me that Trump was convicted of 34 felonies 2 years ago, faced no punishment, and went on to win the presidency a second time and journalists are still like, "hmm, I have an inkling that maybe he believes he's above the law for some reason."
Post from NYT reporter Eric Lipton

"What an odd moment in United States history.

A U.S. president is running an overtly political campaign advertisement, right before midterm elections, paid for by the U.S. government.

Trump appears to believe he is immune from any kind of legal limit."

Useful generally is Ryle's distinction between knowledge-that vs knowledge-how. This allows one to notice that knowing how to ride a bike is unachievable through knowing that it has two wheels etc. No number of books can ever be read such that then one knows how to ride a bike. It's not possible.
