I need to check on costs with the tariff situation, but I tend to bulk buy yarn from Ice Yarns every few years. They're in Turkey near a lot of yarn manufacturers, so it's essentially like a generic yarn without a big company in the middle. This and upcycle stores are where I get my yarn now

Well well well. Etsy sent an email this morning with new AI policies. It’s not an outright ban, but they basically said if you’re using it to deceive - including, hallelujah, AI generated patterns and recipes - you’ll be kicked out. Enforcement remains to be seen, but I’m glad to see it.
An email that reads:

Hi MeasuredandSlow,
Etsy has always been a marketplace that stands for creativity and craftsmanship. On Etsy, unlike anywhere else, buyers can connect with the real people and stories behind the items they buy. As a seller, you're what makes that possible. The care and personal touch you bring to your shop helps create the sense of connection buyers expect when they shop on Etsy.
As new tools change how people create and run their businesses, we know Al raises big, complex questions for creative entrepreneurs. Like many of you, we're thinking seriously about what these changes mean for Etsy, what's allowed on our marketplace, and how it impacts running a creative business.
Al will continue to evolve, but we're committed to protecting what makes Etsy special. We believe:
• Al should support your creativity and craftsmanship, not replace them.
• Buyers should always be able to understand the role you play in every item you sell on Etsy.
That's why we're updating our policies to set clearer restrictions on Al use and introducing new features that help build trust on Etsy.
We're updating our Listing Image Requirements”“That's why we're updating our policies to set clearer restrictions on Al use and introducing new features that help build trust on Etsy.
We're updating our Listing Image Requirements policy. Your listings must include at least one unedited photo of the actual item against a real background. That photo can't be edited or changed, and some exceptions may apply depending on what you sell. All photos must accurately represent what a buyer will receive. At the same time, were introducing new restrictions on Al-generated listings, including prohibiting bot-generated listings and Al-generated functional guides, such as patterns, recipes, and instructions.
We're also updating Etsy to support trustworthy Al use. We're adding guidance when sellers add listing photos, investing in tools to identify misleading images and fraudulent listings, and adding a new reporting option so members can flag listings they believe use Al imagery in a misleading way. At first, reports will help us understand members' concerns and won't trigger immediate enforcement. We'll also explore more ways to give buyers context about Al use on Etsy.
These changes are an important first step, and we know there's more to address as Al evolves. Read the full update to learn what's changing, what it means for your shop, and best practices for using Al in your listings.”“These changes are an important first step, and we know there's more to address as Al evolves. I just cast on for an earth tone scrap cardigan I'm not using someone else's pattern because I like knitting bottom up sweaters, and those patterns are weirdly hard to find rn But basically this is my inspo (except with different construction, eg shawl collars for meeee)

Garter Marler Cardigan
Gather a colorful pile of fingering weight yarns to knit this scraptastic garter stitch sweater. The top-down construction makes the sweater easy to try on and customize the length as you knit. Two strands of fingering weight yarn are held together throughout the entire project for the ultimate stash busting sweater. Squishy garter stitch is framed by ribbing for a very easy to knit sweater, ideal for adventurous beginners and experienced sweater knitters alike. Sizes: XS [S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL] Finished Measurements: 34 [39, 42, 45, 50, 54, 58, 62, 65]″ / 86 [99, 107, 114, 127, 137, 147, 157, 165]cm finished chest circumference. Measurements taken after blocking. L size shown with about 1″ / 2.5cm of positive ease.  The yoke depth, sleeve length, and body lengths are customizable. Yarn: Fingering weight held double  The marled fabric holding two strands of fingering weight together results in a DK weight gauge Yardage: Approximately 1800 [2000, 2500, 3000, 3500, 4000, 4500, 5000, 5500]yds / 1646 [1829, 2286, 2743, 3200, 3658, 4115, 4572, 5029]m These yardage estimations are overestimated a bit, so you should have more than enough yarn to complete your sweater. I recommend getting a big pile of yarn so you have more than enough color choices to work with as you knit. The yardage estimations are for the total yarn amount using fingering weight held double. Needles: US 6 / 4mm circular in 40″ / 100cm length or 1 size smaller than the larger main needle US 7 / 4.5mm circular in 40″ / 100cm length or size needed to obtain gauge Notions: 1 stitch marker, tapestry needle, waste yarn Gauge: 20 sts & 38 rows = 4″ / 10cm in garter stitch after blocking using larger needles A variety of fingering weight yarns including Qing Fibre Dashing Sassy & High Twist BFL, Undercover Otter Squirm Sock & Singularity, West Wool Bicycle, West Wool Glowhair, Walk Collection Cottage Merino, & Life in the Long Grass Singles.

like sure there's a lot of sheep breeds that are more durable than merino but I do not have the budget for targhee yarn (nor do I have the energy to spin it myself) and the more durable wool I can afford makes me want to rip my skin off, so merino it is!

Darlings. When a disabled person in the United States posts that a place is inaccessible to them, stop telling them to report it. That is not a thing. The ADA is a law, not a service. All it does is ensure we can sue. It doesn’t mean we’ll win. In fact, these suits drag on for years.

a fun thing about making clothes for yourself is reading a lot of advice about the "best" construction or most durable materials ...and then realizing, actually they're not the best for your situation and you can just accept you're going to make a deliciously soft sweater that also pills

Basically the idea is to keep the horrible fumes confined to the kitchen, not wafting through my entire living space Because it SUPER cuts down on the amount of work if I don't have to rewash ALL my bedding / towels / clothes because of airborne immune triggers

6. A piece of plastic sheeting taped over the doorway between the kitchen and other rooms, so the fumes hopefully stay contained and don't spread The top half is taped pretty tightly closed with painter's tape The bottom is loose to allow cool air to enter the kitchen

Possibly also worth looking into alarm and timer apps designed for Deaf/HoH folks Although these may involve flashing lights (not strobe light fast tho), which may not be helpful either There *are* also some physical vibrating alarms, like you can have it shake your pillow

- if it's something like "in 30 minutes I need to get up and take my meds," then I use a sleep timer on my music/audiobook so it stops playing in 30 minutes - set alarm volume to silent but putting a "note" in for what the alarm is for, so you get a pop up notification - the same but for gcal

Other strategies I've used: - changing the alarm sound so it's not all jangly, but something more soothing (eg music) - changing the volume of the alarm sound so it's very faint
