The pharmacists asked me what my reason for getting flu jab was. I said I didn't enjoy having flu and would prefer not to get it. The same holds true for Covid for me. That one is booked for 2 weeks time.

I have also now had my annual free NHS flu jab. One of the few upsides of diabetes. Now if we could only convince them to reinstate free Covid jabs that would be great.

It's the 1st of the month so I've done my meter readings. To my surprise British Gas wants to review my payments as it finally acknowledges that my monthly DD is too high. I have been telling it this for 9 months & asking them to reduce it based on my previous 2 years of readings. At last!

I am also relieved. I think one of the Red Tops had a hissy fit about "betrayal" yesterday, but mostly it's people quietly nodding which is a good sign.

#OCDTalkHour topic - do people like walking? Does it calm you down or just give your thoughts more time to whirl around? For me it can be either. Mostly it's good but sometimes it's bad.

An amazing glimpse into Mesolithic everyday life: this more than 7,500-year-old ring was made from heather roots, carefully rolled up and prepared for later use. It was discovered at the settlement of Motala/Sweden, where the same material was used for fish traps. Dating 5750–5550 BC. 🧵1/2 📷me
A thick bundle of dried plant roots, tightly rolled into a ring and secured with fibrous ties, displayed on a dark grey museum plinth.

Dementia and Alzheimer's are absolutely devastating not only to the sufferer but for their friends and loves ones as well. Currently if it happens to your parent or partner you're effectively on your own navigating this terrible and often very expensive landscape of care.

The Tories promised that they'd fix it but did next to nothing even as they sought to all but bribe pensioners with the triple lock pension. Now we'll have the right demanding to know how it's all going to be funded... This needs solving and it would be so good if partisanship could be put aside.

My latest cartoon for @newscientist.com
A figure stands in a barren landscape; reaches for the lever on a large, eccentric contraption covered in wires, pipes, dials and buttons; looks over towards two figures inside a bunker and says:

"'Trust me, it's safe' would sound a lot more reassuring if you weren't saying it from inside a concrete bunker."

Honestly incredible the extent to which so many people have convinced themselves that opposing universal benefits is somehow a progressive position. One of the main ways the centre left has radicalised itself into austerity Osborneism, tbh.

In unrelated news diesel is at an all time high. I wonder if the barrels that some press reports mention being vans were suitable for transporting nefariously acquired diesel, which I understand some farms store in tanks on their premises?
