Surprise! I’ve got a book coming out! It’s a fantasy homage to Smokey and the Bandit, gender-flipped and set in a world without cars.
Cover of East Bound and Down a new book by Lish McBride. Shows a review mirror reflecting a woman wearing sunglasses and a man. A disco ball and crow skull hang from the mirror

THIS IS NOT A DRILL I just met a kid at the grocery store, maybe 7 years old, pulling one of these - a little wooden beaver on wheels, whose tail goes up and down as it rolls. HUMANITY CONTINUES AS WE HAVE ALWAYS DONE.

The Legend of Diego Alcedo: in 1511, Agueybana II, a Cacique of the Taínos, ordered the ambush of Diego Alcedo. some Taino were apprehensive fearing that he was a god. despite their fear, they drowned him & proved that he was no god. to this day Añasco is known as “the city where gods die”

Dazzle camouflage was created during WW1 to protect British ships from German artillery - it works by making it difficult to estimate range of speed and heading. Edward Wadsworth supervised the design of of the camouflage patterns. This is his 'Dazzle Ships in Drydock,' from 1919

Some #Caturday Science!🧪 This is Miko the Siberian tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) from GarLyn Zoo Wildlife Park (non-AZA accredited, in Michigan's UP). Miko is showing his winter weight, but you're also seeing a PRIMORDIAL POUCH swinging under his tummy. Let's talk about these pendulous paunches.

Three thousand years ago, a Greek potter looked at a bowl and thought: ‘You know what this needs? A leg!’ Clay bowl with leg-shaped handle!🦵😆 Early Geometric period 850 BC. Altes Museum, Berlin 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows an ancient Greek pottery bowl with a rounded, deep body, wide open mouth and flared rim. It has a large handle shaped like a human leg, extending from the left side of the bowl in my photo, bending at a right angle and ending in a flat foot. The bowl has a camel-coloured surface decorated with dark brown geometric patterns, which include zigzags and meander motifs arranged in horizontal bands around the body of the bowl and along the leg. From Attica, Early Geometric period, circa 850 BC. It sits on a light stone coloured surface in a display case at the Altes Museum in Berlin.

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

The appeal of Star Trek is (partly) that it let us examine who we wanted to be as a society. The Federation are the utopian society. The Klingon are militarists; The Ferengi, capitalist profiteers; The Andorian, paranoid xenophobes; The Borg, colonialist conquerors.
A composite of Star Trek alien species. It has an Andorian woman, a Trill, a Cardassian, a Klingon, Bajoran, Betazed, Vulcan, and Rom, the Union Man.
