Space engineer Katherine Bennell-Pegg was the first astronaut to train under the Australian flag, 2024. #WorldSpaceWeek🚀 She serves as Director of Space Technology at the Australian Space Agency, leading projects including their upcoming lunar rover. #WomenInSTEM #Australia
A color portrait of Katherine Bennell-Pegg (born 1984), the historic space systems engineer who became the first qualified astronaut to train under the Australian flag. Positioned centrally against a dramatic backdrop, she smiles warmly and confidently at the camera. Her straight, shoulder-length brown hair is parted down the middle and tucked neatly behind her ears. She stands with her arms crossed, wearing a professional, deep blue flight jumpsuit adorned with multiple official insignia. Her left shoulder displays the Australian national flag, positioned directly above a rectangular name tag that reads "K. BENNELL-PEGG" under pilot wings, with a secondary tag below reading "European Astronaut." Her right arm features the official round patch of the Australian Space Agency alongside a circular "Hoppers" patch. The composition places her before a striking contrast: a stark, shadowy dark wall on the left lit by a crisp white spotlight, and a vivid, diagonal blue and white image of the Earth from orbit on the right. The lighting casts soft shadows across her face, creating a professional, inspiring, and historic mood that reflects her trailblazing status.

Well, she was trying to repair a sign. If that isn't asking for it, I don't know what is. I devoutly hope I don't need to stress that this is sarcasm, but you never know, so: THIS IS SARCASM. Possibly approaching irony.

I just actually enjoyed a chat with a lawyer. My son's estranged father cheated me out of 15 years of child support. Now he's dead. It seems there's no will & the 2nd wife is expecting a big payday. Nothing for the only biological child. The words 'I'm malicious & I can afford to sue' tasted sweet.

Yeah, that's a significant difference. Poor MC-M. He's awfully enthusiastic, his heart's in the right place, but every time he says something that might sound practical, I find myself automatically dissecting it to find out what's wrong with it.

I don't think Mars Bars have got any better, but weed's a lot stronger than it was back then. I think it's hilarious that once we walked into a shop and bought durries, and got weed in alleyways. Now I get weed at the pharmacy and get durries from a dodgy twerp in an alley.

The Godzilla El Niño Is a Rehearsal for the Rest of Our Lives
The longer you have to prepare for a disaster, the likelier you are to walk away from it mostly intact. Tornadoes can spin up in minutes, barely giving you time to hustle to a cellar or bathtub. Hurricanes might give a few days’ notice, letting you at least get to higher ground.

Even ignoring the political point (which we shouldn't), this is a joy to watch. I remember my grandfather doing stuff like this. He was a carpenter, born in 1892, who gave up work when he was 90. I thought skills like his were pretty much lost, and I'm thrilled to see that I was wrong.

It never stops being important that, no matter what the subject, politicians like Farage, Trump & Rubio are entirely untethered from the most basic requirements of honest discourse. They might turn out to be telling the truth sometimes but only ever in the spirit of stopped clocks.

When I hang the laundry on the clothesline, the pegs have to match. Buying pegs all the same colour is cheating, and completely unacceptable. Things that only use one peg have to be pegs I've found in the grass or survivors from previous peg purchases.

Not entirely. And I have the scorched teatowel, from when mine was new and I thought that, to prove it. Of course I had to convert the matching teatowel to a cleaning rag immediately, because teatowels MUST be paired.

The prurience didn't help, either. We were told never to wear patent leather shoes because boys could see our underwear reflected (HOW????!!!!), and to wait until the bathroom mirror was fogged up before we undressed, lest we catch an accidental glimpse of our own naked bodies. 2/2
