one thing that really pisses me off is when ppl talk about trans ppl being a "tiny portion of the population" cause you hear we're "about 1%" of it. there's over 8,000,000,000 people alive right now, which means there's over 80 million of us by that estimate. more than twice that of Canada.

I don't really care about where TV Glow fits into wider cultural discussions of "nostalgia" or "letting people enjoy things" or "comfort media". I mean, to be clear, these movies are about claiming ownership over media, but if you decided that instead of buying a ticket to either of them, you were going to pay for that fucking Hogwarts game, you're already among the damned. But I also think it's pretty sus seeing people respond to this like, oh when will Owen grow up and let go of this tv show. And do what, file for fraudulent ppp loans? Buy property and make sure to raise the rent every year to keep up with all the other landlords? Vote for the lesser of two evils? Read the New York Times? Fuck off. The engagement with "nostalgia" is just the surface. Underneath that is the conviction that this society is a coat of lumpy, uneven off-white paint slathered over the black mold infection in the bathroom, a coat of paint not designed for humid spaces that weeps long streaks of yellow liquid as the chemicals separate every time you take a shower, and the spots where your landlord just painted right over a greasy old food label start peeling up and oozing too.
