There will be TWO elections this October, and we hope transit riders vote in both of them! It can be confusing to figure out which level of government is responsible for what (especially when candidates make promises they can’t follow through on).

Aaron Swartz is no longer here to tell us what he saw like twenty years ago. futurism.com/artificial-i...

Swartz had been batchmates with Altman in the inaugural class of 2005 at the Silicon Valley incubator Y Combinator, and warned his friends about Altman shortly before his passing.

“You need to understand that Sam can never be trusted,” he told one confidante. “He is a sociopath. He would do anything.”

I do not think that this person read the rest of my blog.

hi cariad - your writeup on the state of streaming on macos is one of the few honest ones, so you were an obvious person to send this to. i built die with me, a tiny mac companion for claude code + codex that turns your usage allowance into a little character that gets more social as it runs low. i think it could be a new way for streamers to interact with fans - you drop files, links and memes in your status and they see it in their menu bar. would love to partner with you on featuring it and hear what you think

Fucking hell. I deal with airgaps as part of my job and know much better ways to do data transfers through subtle means that don't involve changing the CPU temperature on the fly. I want to write more but I'll get angry about work on a non-working day.

Randomly thought of this photo today taken by David Ley in 1974 of people protesting the construction of what would be the last mid-rise in Kitsilano before the downzoning. Apartments build in the 60s and 70s are now often celebrated as Vancouver's (relatively) affordable housing stock.

Road safety is public safety. Every year, the numbers speak for themselves. I'm proud of my work on Council to bring traffic fatalities and injuries to zero. We need political will to deliver results, and Ken Sim and ABC have shown us time and again that this isn't a priority for them.

This is one of the wildest things I learned researching my book. Planners predicted that cities would be economically ruined unless they built freeways through the city center. In fact, the opposite happened: The cities with successful freeway revolts came out the strongest economically.

Cool. Cool. Telus was breached. Looks like this email was sent en masse.

Dear TELUS Customer,

We are writing to inform you of a recent data security incident involving your TELUS account and to share the steps we have taken to resolve it.

Some time between February 2025 and June 2026, unauthorized individuals used compromised credentials to access your TELUS account. These individuals may have used your account information to contact you in an attempt to persuade you to move your services away from TELUS towards competitors, and/or made unauthorized changes to your TELUS services.

My party leader told me her MLAs keep leaving caucus so I asked how many MLAs she has left and she said she just goes and runs in a by-election hoping for the best so I said it sounds like she’s just feeding MLAs to other parties and then Kevin Falcon started snickering.
