I do not have the biological profile of a cis woman nor a cis man. I am trans and my trans biology needs to be recognised by the health service for the benefit of my safety. The most important thing to remember through all of this is that these policies are overwhelming introduced as a means to keep track of adults, not to protect kids. They do not give a flying fuck about the wellbeing of children. If they did, they wouldn't be letting so many of them live in poverty.

one thing that really gets to me is the amount the guidance talks about preventing “alarm or distress” to cis service users, when not a single ounce of thought has gone into the amount of alarm and distress us trans people are experiencing

It read: “A legitimate aim for excluding a trans person from a separate or single-sex service for their own biological sex might be to prevent alarm or distress for other service users.
“A trans man might be excluded from the women-only service if the service provider decides that, because he presents as a man, other service users could reasonably object to his presence, and it is a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim to exclude him”.

My hottest but niche take on language around transness is that “transmacs” may sometimes be as a way to either include or centre non-binary people but it sometimes really seems like a way to degender trans men. Fortunately this is not a mainstream issue so doesn’t actually matter much, but still.
