Really compelling article about "end times fascists" - and also a beautiful elegy for connecting with *here* with neighbors and with wonder. I'm more and more convinced that love of earth is the antidote to all the horrors of the current world's crises.

The image is of a four panel comic.
In the first panel, we see two stick figures. Text above them labels one as "book smart" and one as "street smart".
In the second panel we zoom out and see the two stick figures in nature next to a tree. There is a sign pointing out of the panel that says "LIFE".
In the third panel we see the street smart stick figure take the hand of the book smart stick figure. The street smart stick figure says "Come, I will guide you".
In the fourth panel we zoom out again and see the two stick figures walking in the direction of the "LIFE" sign. The book smart street figure looks back at the tree as they are walking and says, "I know a lot of facts about that tree".

I'm as guilty as everyone else, but I wish we as a culture would get back to planning ahead. Constant last-minute changes to times, places, and activities are really hard on my ability to cope. There was a time when we would make a plan a month in advance and... just follow through with it.

chaumas clarifies, saying: "she wasn't publicly out before the moose incident but she needed extensive reconstructive surgery and just snuck gender affirming surgeries into that. so yeah to most people it definitely looked like she had a near death moose experience and they just rebuilt her into a woman."

Why bang on about re-enchantment? #ReEnchantmentIsResistance
Re-enchantment as an assertion of wonder and the numinosity of our relationships with landscape. Re-enchantment as an assertion of our collective ability to both imagine and experience better worlds. As a refusal of despair, as a lensing of hope.

Re-enchantment as personal metamorphosis. The space in which we grow glowing red eyes to patrol our communities against this long night of authoritarian pisspuffiny. The space in which we develop iron-hard fur that make us immune to the curses reductionist racists, misogynists, homophobes and AI cultists throw at us. Re-enchantment as the permissive circle where we can voyage into ourselves and find the marvels and bravery we need to deal with this age of violent bruising.

Re-enchantment as resistance.

Family stuff, ofc! I'm considering this an exercise in forward movement. The poem is about the lost sheep of the family. I'm currently visiting the house w/ the cedar chest & I'm very much at peace about it. But also, I can't ever go through this again. (Poem in Rites & Trials anthology, Dec 2025)
Equinox
Jenevieve Carlyn

Summoned, I open
the cedar chest and awake
the resin of a thousand trees,

breathe in unknown forests,
bury my hands in coarse wool,
cable knit, my memory of a pattern
of a lost fair isle, soft as a lamb's ear.

Spellbound to this ritual of remembering
and forgetting, the truth is an itchy sweater
I wrestle at putting on now and then —

in my heart, I know I will never
hear from you again. Still on my mind,
I turn you over and over like a magic eight ball,
"All signs point to yes," an empty affirmation

of what I have already come to accept,
the ambiguous loss of you, a slow realization
of remaining days spent in not-knowing,

the fleeting recognition of thistledown
floating away on a sunbeam.

(Poem in Rites & Trials anthology, Dec. 2025)A lost sheep standing in a forest with a sunbeam shining through the trees.

Always love to be reminded of this. A lot of it was hand-stitched too. Really amazing, precise work. Women’s work is so often minimised and forgotten.
Screenshot:

ALSO, it's not just little old ladies sewed the first spacesuits," it's "the women from the Playtex Corp were the only ones who could sew within the tolerances needed." Yes, THAT Playtex Corp, the one who makes bras.
Bra-makers sent us to the moon.
And the cool thing with them was that they did it all WITHOUT PINS, WITHOUT SEAM RIPPING and in ONE TRY. You couldn't use pins or re-sew seams because the spacesuits had to be airtight, so any additional holes in them were NO GOOD. They were also sewing to some STUPID tight tolerances-in our costume shop if you're within an eighth of an inch of being on the line, you're usually good. The Playtex ladies were working on tolerances of 1/32nd of an inch. 1/32nd. AND IN 21 LAYERS OF FABRIC.
