Nope, all from just a metal ring. I spend a lot of time looking for metal ringed gulls and I know Bob Chapman used to a Milford, so they may be his records

This Med Gull was ringed as an adult in Antwerp, Belgium on 21/06/2006 it was then seen on 29/06/2006 at Milford on Sea, Hants. On 06/11/2018 it was back at Milford & yesterday 27/09/2026 I saw it at Lee on Solent, Hants. An amazing 20yrs 3m 6 days (7403 days) since ringing. #ukbirding #birdringing

The Pebble Hook-tips Drepana falcataria in my 'caterpillar zoo' are now ready to pupate. They first use silk to fold a living Birch leaf. The cocoon is formed within the fold. The leaf will fall into the leaf litter where the pupa will overwinter. Time lapse over 2 hours. Buckfastleigh, Devon

1/ Is this headline misleading? Yes, but not in the direction you'd expect. The problem isn't that it exaggerates. It's that it puts in 2100 what has already started. 🧵

This from 2007 BBC documentary 'Climate Change: Britain Under Threat', the late Jay Wynne predicting >30C daily for half of August 2050. With 24 years still to go, we'll already have two heatwaves far exceeding 30C in the past month - not in August high summer, but spring/early summer. Terrifying.

It’s almost ironic that wildlife will be printed on money, considering how underfunded conservation is… Don’t get me wrong, I fully support the change, but we need more funding to protect these species. If not, one day the populations living in your wallet may be larger than those in the wild…

Slightly cooler air from west of the Canaries for Western Britain & Ireland. Further east the warm Continental air will hang on for most of the night. It's likely the impressive arrival of African moths to SW England will push east along the south coast tonight, and perhaps further north. #teammoth

Nearly 1 in 6 UK species are threatened with extinction. We've lost 97% of our wildflower meadows since the 1930s. We have 73 million fewer birds than in the 1970s - a decline of almost a third. And yet some politicians still just see wildlife as a blocker to progress.

Hopefully things are on the up Graham, at my study site in Hampshire we had a low point around 2004, but since then they have been increasing. We already have 15 singing males back in the study area this year which is nearly back to the numbers from around the late 1990s!

This is what it was like two weeks ago, same roost, same disturbance, more birds. Our wildlife doesn’t stand a chance unless things change, it’s seems ‘dog is king at the moment’ 🥲

That was until this spaniel ran through the roost and flushed everything. I missed the first and main flush, this was the aftermath, with smaller groups still being flushed. We have a strategy in place in Hampshire to protect these birds from disturbance, but it’s just not working.

Developers met ministers dozens of times over planning bill while ecologists were shut out
Exclusive: Leading ecologists say warnings over threat to wildlife have been ignored in drive to build 1.5m new homes The scale of lobbying of ministers by developers on Labour’s landmark planning changes, which seek to rip up environmental rules to boost growth, can be exposed as campaigners make last-ditch attempts to secure protections for nature. The government published its planning and infrastructure bill in March. Before and after the bill’s publication the chancellor, Rachel Reeves, and housing minister Matthew Pennycook have met dozens of developers in numerous meetings. The body representing professional ecologists, meanwhile, has not met one minister despite requests to do so. Continue reading...
