Further examination of this Symphyotrichum today. Even happier that it is indeed S. lanceolatum. Few hairs on leaf mid-rib, lines of hairs on ridged upper stems, stems reddish, dense growth form. @bsbibotany.bsky.social

One of the Digitaria Finger-grass species found on a Twickenham side street yesterday. Didn't cope well with being in my back pocket during the rugby game. Proper ID will have to wait, but most recent Digitaria record locally is - unbelievably - from 1991. @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Bit gutted this year as my reliable, local, best-in-Hampshiresite for my plant fave - Field Woundwort Stachys arvensis- is a no-show. Luckily, I've had a few pop up in one of my planters at home. @bsbibotany.bsky.social

One of easier Glassworts to identify: One-flowered Glasswort Salicornia disarticulata. Also its hybrid with Purple Glasswort S. ramosossima, Salicornia x marshallii. You'll have to take my word for it! Gutner Point, Hayling Island. @bsbibotany.bsky.social

A lovely day with lovely people, leading a saltmarsh walk at Gutner Point, Hayling Island. Unfortunately, a day bookended by two unnecessarily arrogant, rude people who have left me slightly deflated and cross. Anyway, here's Sea Wormwood Artemisia maritima! Plants to the rescue!

Standout abstract quote for me is 'Locally, patch quality (floral cover and species richness) was more important than patch size in promoting species richness of all pollinator groups and density of butterflies and wild bees'. Gives hope for small urban/suburban grassland patches.
