I buy what I need for that day. Often just for the next meal I’m about to make. The notion of a “shopping trip” is so foreign to me I’d probably starve in the suburbs.

Ugh
North Branch of the Chicago River shot from Lawrence looking north. An almost perfect gradient from deep indigo up to bright azure defined the sky and the water reflecting it, with the gradation interrupted only by distant clouds just in the horizon. And this big swathe of blue is cut into from either side by rough edges of bankside greenery converging at a point in the center. North Branch of the Chicago River shot from Lawrence looking south. Same ridiculous nonsense as the previous except the trees are different, there are some high, diaphanous clouds in the sky and reflected in the water, and the sun has become stuck in one of the taller branches on the left.

Does my Speak-n-Spell feel pain when I type O-U-C-H? The jury is out. Philosophers and neuroscientists say that's fucking stupid, but I called a guy from the Center for Pretending that Household Electronics Are Sentient and he said there's no way to know for sure.

Fully agree. I've been on a 🎢 coaster: ititial "good" LLMs made me worried, but revenue has increased 20% in the past year and we don't do AI. Good LLMs create business chaos, and I am a chaos enjoyer. Happy to talk agentic with clients, but the "expert" work is always that: talking. With humans.

As both an academic and a writer, I am repelled by the "this looks like a long document. Would you like me to summarize it for you?" that seems to appear at the top of every pdf viewer now. NO. The *entire point* of good writing (either books or journal papers) is that every sentence has a purpose.

"The Transformers do not endorse the views of the President" okay, great, yeah, it's very normal that you had to say that. This is an ordinary world where things make sense. It's normal that I'd wake up to an official statement from cartoon robots denouncing the man who has the nuclear codes.
