Was gonna tell some folks "please don't use Muse AI", but I've realized that a significant chunk of my ongoing burnout is in the attempt to convince excited people out of their desire for Progress. The Q for me becomes "how do I still feel the excitement while maintaining a critical lens?" Painful.

Other fun facts about Subvert: we just met recently to vote for our new Board of Directors (I put forward myself as a long-shot candidate) and voted on measures such as how Subvert's "worker-members" are hired. Tiny company. I'd love to become a worker-members once more funds are raised.

Finally a good non-AI Notion update today. You can now control individual property access. Set access to "No access" by default to hide from everyone, then add Group overrides to extend access to specific people. Also nice: preview as!

Fully agree. I've been on a 🎢 coaster: ititial "good" LLMs made me worried, but revenue has increased 20% in the past year and we don't do AI. Good LLMs create business chaos, and I am a chaos enjoyer. Happy to talk agentic with clients, but the "expert" work is always that: talking. With humans.

jev's a bit odd. the tutorials don't seem to make much sense, but I may be just misreading. could see how this type of model would be very useful in something like games where you could use player state to create reactive environments. definitely some potential here for reactive soundtracks as well.

One of my fav games is Mysterium. On the surface, it's collaborative Clue, but really it's a game about interpretation and meaning-making. It's very fun, because you can play almost without rules and people genuinely enjoy the process of playing in the "chinese room". Story-building at its best.

One of the things I've been stuck on in somatic coaching is my desire to convince in these contexts. I think a lot of modern service-worker burnout is related to this need. I'm still trying to figure out how to help people in earnest without that convincing energy. It's complex and painful work.

One of my deeply unpopular opinions is that people hold their "second brains" (and perhaps even their captures as well) too tightly. I think 2Bs should be ephemeral and portable (move it to a new software). If it's a snapshot of your life rather than a fluid process, it's more of a Memex than a 2B.

Been quite a productive micro-farming year. Tons of tomatoes and peppers this year. And our backyard always has infinite lavender, rosemary, blackberries, etc. I smell great today. Today I'm making bundles for the neighbourhood post-harvest. Will make some lavender syrup for lattes later.

I think this is basically true & that any "utopian" applications of AI—e.g. "collectively-owned frontier model as public utility"—is gated behind massive social change which technology itself is either (optimistically) indifferent to or (pessimistically) latently opposed to.

this thread is dystopian as all hell and (1) helps me make sense of why there's so much pushback from reasonable people against LLM usage in software eng (2) I feel like we've made a little oasis with reasonable, careful usage of these tools (and wondering how much I/we are setting an example here)
