All MPs voting on Friday MUST know this. A vote for the assisted death PMB is a vote that this Bill MUST become law. You don't get to choose if the Parliament Acts applies. Sharing constitutional law expert Philip Murray from the other place:

Very much agree with much of this. As local news ecosystems have been hollowed out, there's little capacity for serious scrutiny at the scale required. We do what we can here in Kent, but I can't confidently say we have the resources to do what needs to be done under more powerful mayoralties.

When self-declared progressives started sending images like this to feminists on old Twitter, not only did nobody give a shit, they denied that it happened at all. When we warned that violent threats degrade all of public discourse, we'd *at best* be told to suck it up because we deserved it.

so many red lights are flashing all over the shop. And (self included, I lost weeks of my life to reporting BBC scandals no one remembers) all press coverage of the BBC is stupidly either "oh no what about that one bad editorial decision" or "it's doomed, can't be saved". It can be... if people act!

Stop the War Coalition accuses Starmer of exaggerating threat from Russia
This is what the Stop the War Coalition has said about the Dip. It is a statement from Chris Nineham, the coalition’s vice-chair.

In a telling and desperate bid to leave ‘a legacy’, Keir Starmer has insisted on announcing the defence investment plan before leaving office and before the Nato summit. Never mind the cost-of-living crisis or the collapsing services he leaves behind, Starmer wants to be remembered as the man who ramped up spending on weapons to record levels.

He claims he doesn’t want war, but that the best way to avoid it is to be prepared for it. This is a transparent lie. His government has done little more than enable the US and Israel’s illegal wars and has enthusiastically backed the war in Ukraine, doing everything possible to prolong the carnage in the effort to, as he put it today, “turn the screws” on the Russian economy.

It is clear that security, defence and the fantasy and implausible threat from Russia, which is constantly talked up by ministers, generals and arms companies, are now the main ways that the ruling classes are justifying attacks on social programmes, on welfare and working-class living standards in general in favour of still more missiles.

Oh dear. Andy Burhnam is going to be on a steep learning curve if he thinks the existing £39bn Government funding could be rediverted to fund "the biggest programme of council housebuilding since the Second World War”. - The £39bn (over 10y) would fund around 20,000/yr - In 1954, we built 198,210.
In his campaign launch speech, Burnham said he wanted "the biggest programme of council house building since the Second World War".

He suggested this could be funded by rediverting the existing £39bn affordable housing programme entirely to social rent homes.

Quite. The judgment engages the unusual proposition that is missing from some argument that women have rights under the ECHR & legislation too. The judgment also indicates red line rules are ECHR compatible. This is not a shock, but anathema to some who assume proportionate becomes case by case

FWS win on prisons guidance in Scotland. Prison accommodation to be required for men and women based on biological sex. ECHR arguments considered and confer no right to be housed in prisons of the opposite biological sex. Not a surprising decision.
