According to Sybil Exposed, two events didn't make final cut because the author didn't find them plausible. One is that Sybil had her limbs strung from pulleys, which isn't especially implausible. The other, which is of interest here, is that "Sybil" claimed that while in a fugue state under one of

claims in Sybil are around the nature of MPD or DID and the sketchiness of the doctor and journalist who wrote the book. There are a lot of weird dramatics around the mother's supposed actions, but the specific allegations are relatively mundane, sad to say.

The flip side of this is there are reports that, while absolutely horrific, aren't any more severe than things someone in CPS may see on the regular, and these authors claim that the human mind can't possibly contain such horrors and invent entire cosmologies around it. For me, the questionable

Between reading true crime and the reports I've seen in a previous criminal justice adjacent job, I've seen some shit. I will run across SRA skeptics that call various allegations absurd, but most of the individual elements are present in "mundane" abuse cases. It's the scale and scope that can be

Read Sybil Exposed and I really don't want to ready Sybil. 400 pages of unreadable prose padded with many, multiple, several synonymic, equivalent, interchangeable adjectives, modifiers, and descriptors.

Good article, didnt realize the prose pages weren't explicitly codified. My understanding is that letters pages ended up replacing these sections.

I remember Julie Newmar on the Daily Show decades ago campaigning against leaf blowers. She said it was due to Hispanic machismo, like dudes just showed up in rich neighborhoods to rev engines on their backs for fun, not because someone hired them to do it.

Fact checking a book that reports a third party fact checking a fourth party. What it took one of those people a trip to Philadelphia I pulled up on the internet in five minutes. The fact that one is unlikely to buy gay pajamas at a florist is important to some people, and resulted in a lawsuit.

I like this song, more pop than metal, sweet little loser dirtbag love song. Not sure where the "deadly" part comes into play. "I know I like dancing with you!" "That's sweet, honey, but I want to get back to what were you saying about last Saturday night?" youtu.be/kIt3OGra3Lo?...

Can't underestimate how much people anchor their beliefs on "based on a true story" fiction more than on the "true" story itself. For instance, so many people think Ed Warren is a hunky, soft spoken, Christian superhero and not an aggressive schlub who sounds like a mobbed up con artist.
